Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing WebCull and EcholoN.

What makes your product unique?

EcholoN's answer:

What makes EcholoN unique is the combination of proven standard software, configurable business processes and a flexible Enterprise Application Framework on one integrated platform.

Instead of forcing organizations to choose between rigid standard software and costly custom development, EcholoN combines both approaches.

Key differentiators include:

  • Enterprise Application Framework: EcholoN provides a shared technical foundation for standard solutions, customized business processes and company-specific line-of-business applications. Learn more about the EcholoN platform

  • No-Code, Low-Code and Pro-Code: Organizations can visually configure processes and applications, extend business logic with low-code mechanisms and, when required, develop custom applications, modules and integrations using the EcholoN Enterprise Application Framework.

  • Standard software that remains adaptable: Companies can start with proven solutions and process templates and then adapt forms, workflows, data structures, roles, permissions, rules, escalations and business logic to their own requirements.

  • One platform for multiple business areas: EcholoN supports Enterprise Service Management, IT Service Management, Customer Service, Field Service Management, Quality Management, Maintenance and other digital business processes.

  • Integrated workflow automation: Processes, approvals, tasks, deadlines and escalations can be modeled and automated across departments and applications using the EcholoN Workflow Engine.

  • Shared data and process foundation: Service processes, assets, configuration items, users, roles, documents and business information can be connected instead of being distributed across isolated applications.

  • Integration with existing systems: APIs, web services, connectors and data integration capabilities allow ERP, CRM, SAP, monitoring and other business systems to remain part of end-to-end processes.

  • Extendable Self-Service: The EcholoN Self-Service Portal connects employees, customers and partners directly with structured requests, service catalogs, knowledge, approvals and workflows.

  • Flexible deployment: EcholoN can be operated on-premises, as Cloud/SaaS, as a managed service or in hybrid environments.

The key advantage is that organizations do not need a separate application for every new process requirement. They can start with proven EcholoN solutions, customize them and build additional business applications on the same platform architecture.

This makes EcholoN more than an ITSM, help desk or ticketing solution: it is an Enterprise Application Framework for digital business processes and line-of-business applications.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

EcholoN's answer:

Organizations should choose EcholoN when they need more than a fixed-purpose ticketing, ITSM or workflow tool and want a platform that can adapt to changing business requirements over the long term.

Key reasons to choose EcholoN include:

  • Standard software and application platform in one: EcholoN combines proven solutions and process templates with an Enterprise Application Framework for implementing company-specific processes and line-of-business applications.

  • No-Code, Low-Code and Pro-Code: Business teams can configure forms, workflows, roles and rules visually, while more advanced requirements can be implemented through low-code logic or pro-code development on the same platform.

  • More than ITSM: EcholoN supports Enterprise Service Management, IT Service Management, Customer Service, Field Service Management, Quality Management, Maintenance and other business processes.

  • One platform instead of multiple isolated tools: Different applications can share users, roles, data, workflows, integrations and technical components. This reduces the need to introduce a separate specialized system for every new process.

  • Adaptable without abandoning the standard product: Processes, forms, data structures, permissions and workflows can be configured within the EcholoN platform while the underlying software remains part of an actively developed and updateable product base.

  • Integrated workflow automation: The EcholoN Workflow Engine supports automated tasks, approvals, escalations, deadlines and cross-departmental processes.

  • Central data and service context: CMDB, assets, service information, users, documents and process data can be connected within a common platform rather than distributed across disconnected applications.

  • Integration with existing enterprise systems: APIs, web services, connectors and data integration capabilities allow ERP, CRM, SAP, monitoring and other systems to remain part of end-to-end processes.

  • Self-Service for different target groups: The EcholoN Self-Service Portal connects employees, customers and partners directly with requests, service catalogs, knowledge, forms, approvals and status information.

  • Long-term platform approach: Organizations can start with a specific solution and gradually add further processes and applications on the same technical foundation.

EcholoN is therefore particularly suitable for organizations that want the reliability of established enterprise software without being restricted to rigid standard processes.

The main difference is the platform approach: start with proven solutions, customize where necessary and build additional applications on the same Enterprise Application Framework instead of creating another isolated system for every new requirement.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

EcholoN's answer:

EcholoN is primarily designed for medium-sized and large organizations that need structured service processes, configurable workflows and the flexibility to implement company-specific business applications on one platform.

Typical users and target organizations include:

  • IT service organizations that require IT Service Management (ITSM), Service Desk, Incident, Problem and Change Management, CMDB and IT Asset Management.

  • Enterprise Service Management teams that want to extend structured service processes beyond IT into departments such as HR, facility management, administration, quality management or other internal services. Learn more about Enterprise Service Management.

  • Customer service and support organizations that manage customer requests, incidents, complaints, service cases and structured support workflows. Explore EcholoN Customer Service.

  • Technical service providers and field service organizations that require dispatching, technician coordination, mobile processes, asset information, service documentation and offline capabilities. Explore Field Service Management.

  • Organizations with complex IT and service infrastructures that need a central CMDB to connect configuration items, assets, services, users and dependencies with operational processes.

  • Process owners and digitalization teams that want to automate approvals, tasks, escalations and cross-departmental workflows using the EcholoN Workflow Engine.

  • Companies with individual process requirements that need more flexibility than conventional standard software can provide. The EcholoN Enterprise Application Framework supports No-Code configuration, Low-Code extensions and Pro-Code development for company-specific processes and line-of-business applications.

  • Organizations consolidating fragmented software landscapes that want to replace multiple isolated tools for ticketing, workflow, service management, self-service, CMDB and business processes with one integrated platform.

  • Service providers and managed service organizations that need scalable service processes for different customers, teams or organizational units.

EcholoN is particularly suitable for organizations where a simple help desk, ticketing or workflow tool is no longer sufficient and where processes, data, integrations and applications need to evolve with changing business requirements.

In short, the primary audience is organizations looking for both proven enterprise service management capabilities and the flexibility of an Enterprise Application Framework on one common platform.

What's the story behind your product?

EcholoN's answer:

The story of EcholoN began with mIT solutions GmbH, an owner-operated German software company founded in 1994 near Hamburg.

In 1999, the EcholoN consortium was established. Since then, EcholoN has grown from a solution focused on professional service and support processes into a comprehensive enterprise software platform.

Over more than 25 years, EcholoN has continuously evolved together with the requirements of its customers. What started with structured service management has expanded into areas such as IT Service Management, Enterprise Service Management, Customer Service, Field Service Management, CMDB, workflow automation, self-service and digital business processes.

Today, EcholoN is positioned as an Enterprise Application Framework for digital business processes and line-of-business applications.

The platform combines two approaches that companies traditionally had to choose between:

  • Proven standard software for established service and business processes
  • Flexible application development for company-specific processes and line-of-business applications

Organizations can start with existing EcholoN solutions and process templates, adapt them to their own requirements and develop additional applications on the same technical platform.

The development approach ranges from visual No-Code configuration through Low-Code extensions to Pro-Code development based on the EcholoN Enterprise Application Framework.

This platform strategy follows a principle that has shaped EcholoN for many years: companies should be able to adapt software to their processes without creating a fragmented landscape of isolated custom applications.

Today, EcholoN supports 400+ customers, with an average usage period of 15.7 years, demonstrating its focus on long-term, continuously evolving enterprise solutions.

The EcholoN consortium currently brings together more than 100 active EcholoN specialists in three countries, covering software development, consulting, implementation and customer support.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

EcholoN's answer:

EcholoN is built as an enterprise software platform and Enterprise Application Framework for digital business processes and line-of-business applications.

Its technology approach combines configurable application components, workflow automation, integration technologies and professional software development on one common platform.

Key technologies and technical concepts include:

  • Enterprise Application Framework: The EcholoN Enterprise Application Framework provides the common technical foundation for standard solutions, customized processes and company-specific applications.

  • No-Code configuration: Data structures, forms, views, workflows, roles, permissions, rules, escalations and deadlines can be configured visually without traditional software development.

  • Low-Code extensions: Scripts and expressions can extend business logic for calculations, rules and technical functions where visual configuration alone is not sufficient.

  • Pro-Code development: With the EcholoN Enterprise Edition, development teams can create their own applications, modules, components and integrations on the same platform architecture.

  • GraphQL API: EcholoN Enterprise includes a GraphQL API Explorer for accessing and working with EcholoN objects and application data.

  • APIs, web services and connectors: EcholoN integrates with existing ERP, CRM, SAP, monitoring and other enterprise systems through APIs, interfaces, web services and connectors.

  • Data integration: EcholoN provides capabilities for exchanging, transforming and processing data between the platform and external systems. Learn more about EcholoN Data Integration.

  • Workflow technology: Tasks, business rules, escalations, deadlines and process steps can be combined into automated and traceable workflows.

  • Desktop, Web and Mobile applications: The framework supports the design and operation of Windows, browser-based and mobile applications for different business scenarios.

  • Role- and permission-based architecture: Users, roles and permissions provide governance across applications, processes and organizational structures.

  • Enterprise integrations: EcholoN can be connected with technologies and systems such as Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, SAP, REST APIs and other third-party applications.

  • Flexible deployment: EcholoN supports on-premises, cloud/SaaS, managed-service and hybrid operating models.

The important difference is that these technologies are not isolated components. They form a shared application platform on which organizations can configure standard solutions, automate processes, integrate existing systems and develop their own line-of-business applications.

EcholoN Reviews

  1. Patrick Hein
An infinitely reliable tool with enormous functions and an absolute overview!

All incoming support and training requests as well as service orders are handled with EcholoN. In addition - through delegations to other departments - change requests or second & third level processing are managed. An option to optimise our own processes on a regular basis is offered by reporting: evaluation of completion categories and type of service contracts of the requester(s).

As far as data reconciliation with our ERP and stability are concerned, EcholoN is colossally reliable. We have been using EcholoN for 2 years - with over 20k tickets/year - and it runs perfectly; no failures.

To be able to react adequately to different situations and to give us an invaluable overview, we use the possibility of the different cockpits. Predefined mandatory fields set in the appropriate places guarantee both a seamless flow of information and reliable evaluations. The latter can be created with maximum flexibility. New staff can be trained quickly, because the operation is intuitive.

    Pros:    Quick and easy|Great customer support|Useful features|Fast support|Easy to setup|Great set of functions|Highly recommend|Third party service integration|Intuitive user interface|Automation and custom functions|Customer support|Simple yet powerful and efficient tool|Offline|Api & webhooks|Rest api|Automatic graphql & rest api
    Cons:    Can’t find anything bad.

Holistic service management at professional level

We continue to expand the system and use it as strategic group software. Very constructive cooperation with the colleagues from EcholoN.

Pros: Individual configuration options, the software adapts to the company and not vice versa. - Automatic processes (ticket creation, workflows, etc.) DWS takes care of everything! - Different clients for both mobile and stationary use for the different application areas and users - High transparency for users - Good server architecture (application server, server manager, database, applications) - Updates are very easy to install.

Cons: UserClient too overloaded for some users, but you can also use the WebClient for that - No automatic database archiving, database grows quickly (depending on the application, of course).

Pros:    Its flexible and easy to use|Automation and custom functions|Easy user interface
    Cons:    Faster growth

    Top Enterprise Service Management Software

Overall: We use EcholoN very extensively for our daily tasks, be it for service management, CMDB or even change management. Very good support from Germany, competent and friendly staff.

Pros: Software can be adapted very flexibly to your own processes. Extensive possibilities to create additional data fields and integrate them into the masks. Other systems can be connected and integrated very easily (Active Directory, Baramundi, Excel import, ...) Web client is available and is constantly being expanded. Software maintenance is now very simple, updates can be carried out by the customer without any problems.

Cons: Due to the flexibility, there is no "standard", each customer "must" design their own processes. Full client sometimes a bit overloaded and longer loading times, then fast operation. Functions are partly available in old and new form for compatibility reasons, which sometimes causes confusion.

    Competitors: Track-It!, BMC Remedy
    Pros:    Flexible|Excellent support|Friendly and safe community|Easy integration
    Cons:    Confusing set-up
