I think that RM should consider a solution such as UserVoice which will let the user community vote on what critical bug fixes or new features we feel are most important. The specific target interview format I have in mind is via a shared, live editor (e.g. https://coderpad.io/) and a video link, lasting ~1hr. The practice format might be more like 45min for the interview followed by 15 - 30min for feedback and discussion.
