  • Bandwidth Limitations
Depending on the user's internet connection, downloading large high-quality assets could be time-consuming and challenging.
  • No Custom Requests
Poly Haven does not offer a service for custom asset requests, limiting users to the available library of assets.
  • Community Contributions
While the community can donate to support the platform, there is currently no mechanism for users to directly upload and share their own assets.
  • Dependency on Donations
Being a free service that largely depends on user donations, there might be concerns about long-term sustainability and regular updates.

OpenFrameworks features and specs

Possible disadvantages of OpenFrameworks

  • Steep Learning Curve
While OpenFrameworks is powerful, its complexity can be daunting for beginners, especially those without experience in C++ programming.
  • Limited Documentation
Although there is community support, the official documentation can sometimes be sparse or outdated, which can pose challenges for developers seeking detailed explanations or examples.
  • Performance Overhead
As an abstraction layer over native OpenGL, OpenFrameworks might introduce performance overhead compared to writing raw OpenGL code, which can be a concern for high-performance applications.
  • Dependency Management
Managing dependencies and ensuring compatibility across different platforms can be complex, especially when dealing with various libraries and add-ons.
  • Not Ideal for All Types of Applications
OpenFrameworks is tailored towards creative coding and may not be the best choice for applications that require extensive GUI features or are more business-logic-oriented.

Open source is rarely free as in free beer. Many have a non-commercial use clause GPL-like licenses, Patent liabilities, and if you are a business you pay per seat for the current compiled binary install/support. The fact is, if people really want to pirate work... There is no way to capture every user sale. I like FOSS with a tax-deductible recommended donation link, but it is embarrassing when your are the one... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • I like DAZ3D but there are absolutely no models or assets for me.
Also, I didn't see it mentioned, but if it's environments that you are mostly after, one possible solution is to use HDRIs for the background. Obviously those are more limiting than a proper 3D environment but might be good if you are just doing static, one-off shots. You can get free ones of those from https://polyhaven.com and https://hdri-haven.com. Source: about 3 years ago

I used a terrain texture from polyhaven.com (was texturehaven.com back when I downloaded it.) I honestly cannot remember which tool I got the heightmap from, it was so long ago. But google terrain height map generator or some variant on that, I think there's like openGIS is one of them, and like,... Source: about 3 years ago
