The thing that I personally like about Evernote is that before I have used word as my note taking application, than on my smartphone I have had used Google Keep and so my notes were just unorganized mess. But with Evernote now I can have my notes at one place and unified. Also the fact that I can log to another device and my notes are "just there" is really nice. And also I like graphics user interface of Evernote.

Obsidian is a multi-platform note-taking and writing app. Simple enough. But aren't there plenty of those around? Yes absolutely, but they each have downsides that I wasn't able to settle with long-term. With Google Cloud it was the difficult of linking between notes (this has improved since but it's still not quite what I want). For those who want a GUI around this on Mac, https://rowanj.github.io/gitx/ is an incredible secret weapon. You can swipe over a bunch of lines or let the software identify a whole span of contiguous changed lines, click a button, and see just those changes move over from your unstaged to staged changes, then commit exactly what you want. I agree, if you get lots of forks you can end up with a situation like Tomato) or GitX, or even custom Android ROMs where there are a ton of different versions and you have to wade through forum posts and git histories to find out what the differences between them are, which ones still work at all, which ones are still maintained, etc. Source: over 4 years ago
