The Git CLI is terrifying and awful. It's far too easy to clobber your own work -- and that of others -- when the whole point of it was to prevent that. While you still need to really deeply understand several git concepts to use it, GitKraken[0] is the best GUI tool I've used in daily practice. For those who want a GUI around this on Mac, https://rowanj.github.io/gitx/ is an incredible secret weapon. You can swipe over a bunch of lines or let the software identify a whole span of contiguous changed lines, click a button, and see just those changes move over from your unstaged to staged changes, then commit exactly what you want. I agree, if you get lots of forks you can end up with a situation like Tomato) or GitX, or even custom Android ROMs where there are a ton of different versions and you have to wade through forum posts and git histories to find out what the differences between them are, which ones still work at all, which ones are still maintained, etc. Source: over 3 years ago
