Avoyd 6 features
LaunchRender 4 features
  • Voxel Editing
Create large scenes up to 256000 voxels a side. Sculpt and combine voxel models with preset shapes, cut/copy/paste, masks, symmetry, undo/redo.
  • Path Traced Volumetric Rendering
High quality CPU and GPU accelerated path tracing of voxel scenes. Physically based rendering with atmosphere volumetric shadows, depth of field. Post processing OIDN denoising, agX tonemapping and bloom. Custom image size and aspect ratio up to 16k x 16k pixels. Output to high dynamic range with HDR and OpenEXR EXR, and to JPG and PNG.
  • Export to Mesh for Games and Art, and to VOX
Export voxel worlds and models with physically based materials to optimised mesh glTF and OBJ for game engines Unreal Engine, Godot and Unity 3D, and Blender. Export to MagicaVoxel VOX.
  • Import VOX, Minecraft, Heightmaps, 3D data
Import MagicaVoxel VOX, Minecraft worlds MCA and NBT, JPG PNG TGA heightmaps, images and colours. Import raw 3D binary arrays for data visualisation.
  • Physically Based Materials
Up to 65536 materials with physically based customisable properties: diffuse, metallic, emissive, and transparency with refraction, absorption and scattering.
  • Minimum specification
Operating System: 64-bit Windows 7 or above Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.6 GHz or equivalent CPU with at least two cores Memory: 2 GB RAM Graphics: Intel HD6000, Nvidia GTX 660, AMD HD 7800 or equivalent. Uses OpenGL 3.2. GPU rendering requires a Vulkan 1.2+ compatible GPU. Storage: 30 MB available space for installation but saved voxel models can require significant storage space, up to several GB.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Avoyd and LaunchRender.

What's the story behind your product?

Avoyd's answer

Avoyd started out in 1999 as a multiplayer first person shooter with a fully modifiable voxel world, arguably the first such type of game. Many of our early players were mainly interested in building structures with our game, and so when we came back to making a modern version of Avoyd we decided to put a strong focus on the Voxel Editor.

What makes your product unique?

Avoyd's answer

Avoyd Voxel Editor supports extremely large voxel worlds. It can import and renders entire Minecraft worlds as voxels.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Avoyd's answer

Minecraft map makers and modders, along with voxel artists who want to assemble and render large scenes or export to mesh for use in Games or 3D content tools with physically based materials.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Avoyd's answer

Avoyd runs on our in-house voxel game engine written in C++ using:

  • OpenGL (and soon Vulkan).
  • GLFW for the platform windowing layer.
  • Dear ImGui for the graphical user interface.
  • enkiTS our open source multithreaded task system.
  • Runtime Compiled C++ a C++ programming technique we developed for iterative development.

For a full list of technologies used in Avoyd see our FAQ.

Voxels in Avoyd are compressed with our proprietary enkiOT voxel octree technology, which is also used for ray casting. The enkiOT library is used in the Mercuna AI 3D Pathfinding middleware and has been shipped in a number of AAA titles over the years.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?
