Wine Trails turns your phone into a private, self-guided audio wine tour. Choose a region, then drive or cycle between cellar doors at your own pace. As you approach each winery, GPS triggers a professionally researched, narrated story about that producer, so the journey itself becomes the tour. No group, no fixed schedule, and it all works offline.
The app covers 36 wine regions across New Zealand, Australia, the United States and South Africa, with more than 4,000 wineries on an interactive map and over 1,100 narrated with their own audio stories. It began by narrating all 17 New Zealand wine regions, then expanded to Australia, the United States and South Africa, now 36 regions and growing, with every winery story individually researched and fact-checked before it's recorded.

I've use it instead of Firebase on a 15$ DigitalOcean droplet and saved around ~$150 a month. Managing my own infra does take some extra time, but definitely worth it. The APIs and SDK are also surprisingly much easier to consume than Firebase. Waiting for the cloud version.

Initially, I was using the Supabase free tier, but I was hitting the limits, and my app was becoming stale. Then I switched to Appwrite.
