Open source is rarely free as in free beer. Many have a non-commercial use clause GPL-like licenses, Patent liabilities, and if you are a business you pay per seat for the current compiled binary install/support. The fact is, if people really want to pirate work... There is no way to capture every user sale. I like FOSS with a tax-deductible recommended donation link, but it is embarrassing when your are the one... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
Also, I didn't see it mentioned, but if it's environments that you are mostly after, one possible solution is to use HDRIs for the background. Obviously those are more limiting than a proper 3D environment but might be good if you are just doing static, one-off shots. You can get free ones of those from https://polyhaven.com and https://hdri-haven.com. Source: about 3 years ago

As for rule 2 compliance, you may recall from the last post, I textured the duck with an image from unsplash. I used a terrain texture from polyhaven.com (was texturehaven.com back when I downloaded it.) I honestly cannot remember which tool I got the heightmap from, it was so long ago. But google terrain height map generator or some variant on that, I think there's like openGIS is one of them, and like,... Source: about 3 years ago

Language explorers looking for lower level languages like this may also want to take a peek at the V language. https://vlang.io/ I won't say with confidence either is better than the other; but I think both are worth a look. Odin (iiuc) always makes you manage memory; Vlang permits you to, but does also have linking to the Boehm GC that it will generate for you in most cases. Vlang and Odin in terms of syntax and... - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
There are other choices of languages, that are close to and influenced by Golang. Languages such as Odin[1] and Vlang[2] (which addresses several issues mentioned). Even more, they are at the stage where advance programmers can contribute or influence them in the ways that they might find satisfactory. Golang is too far down the road and cemented in its ways, to expect such significant changes in direction. [1]:... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
> For me the biggest gap in programming languages is a rust like language with a garbage collector, instead of a borrow checker. https://vlang.io. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
