Possible disadvantages of Google App Engine

  • Cost

  • Vendor lock-in
Relying heavily on Google App Engine's proprietary services and APIs can make it difficult to migrate applications to other platforms, leading to vendor lock-in.
  • Limited control
Being a fully managed service, App Engine provides limited control over the underlying infrastructure which might be a limitation for certain advanced use cases.
  • Environment constraints
Certain restrictions and limitations are imposed on the runtime environment, such as request timeout limits and specific resource quotas, which can affect application performance.
  • Complex debugging
Debugging issues in a highly abstracted managed environment can be more complex and difficult compared to traditional server-hosted applications.
  • Cold start latency
Serverless environments like App Engine can suffer from cold start latency, where the initial request triggers a delay as the environment spins up resources.
  • Configuration complexity
Despite its benefits, configuring and optimizing App Engine for specific scenarios can be more complex than expected, requiring a steep learning curve.

Been using Qualaroo for in-page surveys, and honestly, it just works. No complicated setup, no guessworkโ€”just pop in a survey, get feedback, and move on. The fact that we can control how much we spend based on responses is a big win. Reports are clean and donโ€™t make us dig through piles of data. Plus, it fits right into our workflow.

Apart from the survey-building, I have been using Qualaroo because it offers tons of different channels to deploy your surveys, and you can collect feedback from your users no matter where they are. There are also plenty of integration options to make the most out of the survey data.

    ๐Ÿ Competitors: Qualtrics

Not a fan of pricing, but I am here for the features!

We wanted to collect feedback from the leaving customers, so we used surveys and triggers to show our pop-up as the visitors were about to leave the website. Through the branching logic, we were able to redirect some of the visitors to the right pages and stop them from leaving. The tool was handy, and I would recommend it.

    ๐Ÿ Competitors: Qualtrics XM
๐Ÿ‘Ž Cons:    Pricing is the only drawback, i think. the features of the tool were good. so, i guess, if you can ignore the prices, you should try this tool.

If Google App Engine (GAE) is the "OG" serverless platform, Cloud Run (GCR) is its logical successor, crafted for today's modern app-hosting needs. GAE was the 1st generation of Google serverless platforms. It has since been joined, about a decade later, by 2nd generation services, GCR and Cloud Functions (GCF).
