Most material calculators answer one question and forget it. MaterialCalc keeps the answers: draw your room in 2D and walk it in 3D, or design a shed or deck piece by piece, and the quantities total room by room into a project with a budget, a tool list, a schedule and a shopping list you can take to the merchant.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Materialcalc's answer:

It works from your measurements and your local prices rather than a national average, and the numbers accumulate into a project instead of vanishing when you close the tab. One toggle switches the whole site between metric and imperial and renames the timber — 48×98 mm becomes 2×4 — without changing a single quantity. Free to try, no sign-up.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Materialcalc's answer:

Homeowners planning or running their own renovation, and small builders pricing a job. It assumes you know the trade words but not the arithmetic, so first-time DIY builders get the most out of it.

What's the story behind your product?

Materialcalc's answer:

My own renovation ran over — on cost and on time — and not because of one big mistake. Estimating a job is dozens of small calculations: quantities per trade, waste and offcuts, the tools you don't own yet, and the way one change moves the whole total. Miss any of them and you're back at the merchant on a Saturday, or standing over material you didn't need.

So I built what I'd wanted myself: work it out once, with your own prices, and keep it. The whole job totals room by room, so you can see what it will actually cost before you commit — not after.
