Margin is a calm semester planner for college students on Canvas LMS. It reads your Canvas courses in your browser and collects your assignments and due dates into one clean view - everything due, nothing else - so you stop clicking through six course pages to find out what's coming.

How it works

  • Install the Chrome extension and open your school's Canvas as usual; Margin reads your own signed-in session.
  • Your assignments and due dates appear in one calm, notebook-styled list.
  • Overdue work stays visible instead of quietly dropping off (Canvas's own to-do feed only shows a narrow window).
  • Standard iCal calendar feeds can appear alongside Canvas in the same view.
  • If you use Todoist, send assignments across as tasks in a project of your choosing. The connection is opt-in; the view works without it.

Pricing

  • Free tier, permanent: keeps the week ahead current. No card, no trial clock.
  • Margin Pass: $9.99 for one semester, one-time, does not auto-renew. Extends the view to the whole term.

Built by a student who needed it. A companion e-paper desk display is in development.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Acuity Scheduling and Margin.computer.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Margin.computer's answer:

Classic student planners like My Study Life or myHomework are good at manual entry - you type each assignment in yourself. Margin removes that step for Canvas schools: it reads your courses and fills the list for you. Compared with extensions that restyle the whole Canvas interface, Margin does one job - everything due, in one calm view. The free tier is genuinely permanent (it keeps your week ahead current, no card), and the Margin Pass is a one-time $9.99 per semester that does not auto-renew, which is rare in a subscription-heavy category.

What makes your product unique?

Margin.computer's answer:

Most student planners make you type every assignment in by hand. Margin fills itself: it reads your Canvas courses in your browser and keeps your assignments and due dates in one calm view - everything due, nothing else. Two details set it apart. Overdue work stays visible instead of quietly dropping off the list (Canvas's own to-do feed only shows a narrow window, which is how deadlines get missed). And calm is treated as a feature: no streaks, no gamification, no notifications begging for attention. Assignments can optionally be sent to Todoist.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Margin.computer's answer:

College students at schools that run Canvas LMS - anyone juggling four to six courses who is tired of clicking into each one to find out what is due. It suits students who want a quiet list rather than another productivity system to maintain: open it, see what is coming, get back to work. Students who already live in Todoist can send assignments across; everyone else needs nothing beyond the extension.

What's the story behind your product?

Margin.computer's answer:

Margin started as a personal tool. A college student kept finding out about deadlines later than he should have, even though they were technically in Canvas the whole time - just spread across course pages and a to-do feed that only shows a narrow window. He built the single view he wanted, and it grew into a proper extension. The notebook look - cream paper, one red margin line - is deliberate: a planner should lower your pulse, not raise it. It shipped on the Chrome Web Store in July 2026, with a small e-paper desk display for the same calm list in development alongside it.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Margin.computer's answer:

A Chrome extension on Manifest V3, built in plain JavaScript with no heavyweight framework - it reads Canvas through the student's own signed-in browser session. The optional Todoist connection uses the Todoist API. The companion desk display in development runs on e-paper. The guiding constraint throughout is smallness: a quiet tool that does one job.

Acuity or Calendly would also let you do this.
