  • Author Resources: Tools and Software
Https:// is free and open source (I haven't used it, only know about it). Source: 12 months ago
  • How to install Davinci?
NovelWriter for books is like building a dungeon in D&D I might add. All it needs is a map editor ;). Source: about 1 year ago
  • What kind of applications are missing from the Linux ecosystem?
Novelwriter almost hits the sweet spot, but misses some features and is written in python, which makes some features hard to implement due to the nature of the programming language. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Getting into writing novels
Try this software. It may well help you to write better -> novelWriter. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Looking for a 'Scrivener Light'
Alternatively, if you want Scrivener-like and are happy with open source projects, novelWriter scratches some of the same itch and is (a) free and (b) available on Linux, Windows, and macOS: it has a similar project-oriented interface to Scrivener, can export projects in HTML, Open Document, Markdown, Plain Text, or PDF, supports tagging and metadata, and uses Markdown for authoring. It's much less hot on... Source: over 1 year ago
  • I'm Andrew Rowe, the author of Arcane Ascension, Weapons & Wielders, etc. AMA!
MSWord is surprising to hear. I would've thought some specific tools like Vellum. There are free and open source tools as well, like Source: over 1 year ago
  • Making a text editor with Godot. (And learning some stuff about it.)
I'm sure that creating a basic text editor won't be too hard using Godot considering that all the features you would want are already part of the engine and on display in the Godot editor itself. However if all you're looking for is an open source text editor that supports Russian, why not something like Gedit, Kate, OpenOffice Writer? Taking a second to search online, it seems like this open source program named... Source: over 1 year ago
  • PC users, what free program would you recommend for story writing/planning?
Have you looked at yWriter, Skribisto, novelWriter, or Wavemaker? Source: over 1 year ago
  • Software for Writing on Linux
NovelWriter is an option for specialized "novel" work. Source: over 1 year ago
  • I'm looking for free screenwriting software for Endeavor OS
There is Novelwriter, ostorybook (make sure you select the right java during install or it won't run. I used the plain 'JRE' and it worked) and also one called Manuskript. Source: over 1 year ago
  • I want to install a novelwriter; a python program. Supported?
The program in question is novelWriter. It is not yet available as flatpak, snap, or appimage. Source: over 1 year ago
  • What software do you miss from Windows & macOS?
Yeah, I actually found the AppImage after posting that comment. That goes a long way. Novelwriter also looks excellent, but it's still very much not even in the same class. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Soul Relic: wholesome adventure
Also, have you tried book writing software like ? This one is FOSS, supports markdown, features to organize, cross-reference, etc. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Is Scrivener worth the money?
However, as others have mentioned, some aspects of it are still bothersome (I see endless complaints about the complexity of the Compiler), and there do exist some really good free alternatives, like SmartEdit Writer and NovelWriter, which offer very similar functionally. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Looking for a piece of software that would help me in writing a book. I haven't written much so I have no expectations. I found some fancy, full-featured app for Mac that costs $50, was wondering if there was anything FOSS with fewer features.
Https:// is another option, plus it is FOSS. Source: over 2 years ago
  • If you are an author, what do you do your writing in?
I haven't used it, but I have bookmarked as a FOSS option, especially as it has markdown-like syntax. Source: almost 3 years ago
