Software Alternatives & Reviews

Looking for a piece of software that would help me in writing a book. I haven't written much so I have no expectations. I found some fancy, full-featured app for Mac that costs $50, was wondering if there was anything FOSS with fewer features.

  2. Org: an Emacs Mode for Notes, Planning, and Authoring
    Pricing:
    • Open Source
ISTR various posts on /r/orgmode by people who've set up Org mode similar to Scrivener. As I'm unfamiliar with the latter, I don't know how these setups compare with the proprietary software. The beauty of Org mode and Emacs in general is of course that you can tweak it to exactly fit your workflow, with as many (or few) bells and whistles as you like.

  3. Multi-document markdown-like editor for writing novels.

Https://novelwriter.io/ is another option, plus it is FOSS.

  4. Simple and powerful application for writing screenplays.
Maybe also kitscenarist can be helpful :).
