At Koofr[1] one of the most requested features was an option to prevent downloading files from public links. We didn't want to lie to our users so we added a "Hide download button" option because that's the only thing you can do. You can hide the download button but you can never really prevent the download. [1] https://koofr.eu. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
If you're not too far from Europe* then Koofr might come pretty close to your idea. 1TB "lifetime" 160 US$ ATM (less if you find a coupon they accept at checkout, many generic Stacksocial-Codes worked in the past). I'm a happy "lifetime" user of them, only disadvantage I discovered so far: They do not store creation date/time of folders, only of files. Source: almost 2 years ago

Koofr offers cloud storage that you can access over the web, with the Koofr apps, or via protocols like WebDAV or rclone โ perfectly suitable for syncing or backup. I used koofr.eu and liked them a lot. No bells or whistles, just storage and the various way to access it. They don't encrypt your data, but they publish guides on their page on how to use the various technologies on how to encrypt your data before uploading. They are based in the EU and adhere to GPDR including when data is said it's deleted, it's deleted. Pricing is competitive, speeds are good and they... Source: over 3 years ago

I made it a point to only pick providers that I can use with rclone. I landed on Koofr because their pricing was also good, they had a decent free tier, and the client works on Linux. Their app and web client are also nice, and I appreciate that their site seems to have zero trackers. Source: over 4 years ago
Koofr is a relatively small but noteworthy player in the cloud storage market, drawing attention particularly in the European sector due to its strong privacy and security posture. Based out of Slovenia, Koofr ensures compliance with GDPR standards, enhancing its appeal to privacy-conscious users. The platform offers a seamless cloud storage experience with particular emphasis on security and functionality across multiple operating systems, including a specific focus on Linux compatibility.
In recent discussions about cloud storage options, Koofr is frequently recognized for its updated free storage plan, offering up to 10GB without complicated achievement or referral schemes. However, this amount may appear limited compared to its larger competitors like Google Drive or Dropbox, especially for users transitioning from these platforms or accustomed to the enhanced free offerings available elsewhere.
Koofr distinguishes itself through its robust integration capabilities, allowing users to consolidate various third-party storage accountsโGoogle Drive, Dropbox, and OneDriveโwithin a single interface. This capability not only enhances usability but also optimizes the searchability of files across multiple platforms, a unique selling point that resonates with tech-savvy users managing multiple accounts.
Despite its strengths, Koofr faces challenges, notably perceptions of its pricing structure. It is highlighted in reviews and user discussions that transitioning from a low-cost, high-capacity service such as Google One, may initially seem daunting. Nevertheless, Koofr offers a lifetime subscription model which some users find cost-effective in the long run.
Security and privacy are recurrent themes in the commentary on Koofr, with SSL/TLS encryption providing secure file transfers, but the platform does not inherently offer end-to-end encryption. Users can, however, leverage third-party tools such as Cryptomator or Boxcryptor to encrypt their data before uploading, adding an extra layer of security. The platform also supports WebDAV and is compatible with rclone, adding to its utility for advanced users requiring customizable sync solutions.
Koofr provides additional functionalities such as expirable link sharing and content control features even for free usersโa notable differentiation from competitors like Dropbox. However, the ability to prevent downloads from public links is limited, with only the option to hide the download button available, which might not meet all security expectations.
The platform has faced some external challenges, such as being incorrectly flagged as dangerous by browsers like Microsoft Edge, raising concerns about site accessibility rather than direct criticism of the service's quality.
Overall, Koofr is a strong candidate for users who prioritize privacy and security, particularly within the European market, and those who require integration across multiple storage solutions. While there are some drawbacks, especially regarding free storage limitations and pricing perceptions, Koofrโs focus on security features and seamless integration make it a viable alternative for discerning users.
