Assistive Access could go way beyond its current use. Focus Modes help a little, but they donโt fully solve the problem of wanting certain apps during work hours and blocking them completely afterward. A stricter, system-level option would be huge. People already turn to tools like Freedom https://freedom.to/ or custom iOS Shortcuts to enforce downtime, but those feel more like hacks than solutions. Very, very much agree with this. The nuggets of wait time are just long enough to get distracted, but not long enough to accomplish anything worthwhile. My best "hack" for this has been to use Freedom[1] to create a blocklist of all my go-to time sucks (including, sadly, HN). This at least stops me from getting pulled in too deeply. Consider installing Freedom (https://freedom.to) or Opal on your phone. I paid $23 for a year of the Freedom program after they gave me a discount by signing up for their email. Blocks everything I need on my phone + laptop. Worth every penny. Or you can get an Opal annual subscription for $50 w/ their promotion. I feel for you OP. I had pretty much the same problem when I started grad school from home. For me, the web blocking software Freedom (link here , I have the premium version, but they offer a free trial if you wanted to test it out) has been an absolute life saver. I've been using it since February/March and it has improved my mental health, my work day productivity, and my general ability to function more than I... Source: about 3 years ago

1) Download some software called Freedom. I think there are some free versions, but even the paid version is pretty inexpensive. ($29 per year.) You can tell it what websites to block, and it won't let you access them for whatever time period you set. I find this really helpful if you need wifi access to your email or for research, but you don't want to be able to access something like Reddit. Here's a link to... Source: about 3 years ago
