  • TIL there are apps that can control your monitor without touching the buttons on it
All DDC related features in BetterDisplay and MonitorControl is completely free without limitation or no nag screens of any kind. Lunar has manual control available for free (with a daily adjustment limit). DisplayBuddy was also mentioned here - it is a rather limited app and asks a bunch of money for stuff that is available for free and in a better implemented form in basically every other app (which is weird as... • App LIST!!!
DisplayBuddy (Paid) Very limited options, tbh I don't recommend it compared to Lunar or BetterDisplay. Source: about 2 years ago
  • App breaks past the MacBook brightness limit to 1600nits

It was fully open-source until v3: https://github.com/alin23/Lunar/tree/lunar3 I've kept that around, it's still compilable, but probably not that useful. When making Lunar paid in v4, I didn't want to remove the possibility of sharing knowledge, so I kept the non-paid parts open-source. This allowed other apps like MonitorControl [1] and DisplayBuddy [2] to port some... - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
  • Apple MacBook M1 Max - Variable 48-120hz on external working with HDR.
Yes - with a third party App you can control it. I use this service called "Setapp" so for me, it was already paid for in my monthly subscription. The app is called DisplayBuddy. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Some amazing macOS apps I use every day
DisplayBuddy for controlling my external displays directly from my Mac. $4.99 a one time purchase and worth every penny if you use a monitor with your Mac (especially during WFH). Source: almost 4 years ago
