Web Store extensions unfortunately don't work in Ungoogled Chromium. There is a a way around it however. It requires a website that fetches the extension file. Source: 12 months ago
Yeah, that's definitely a downside to creating Chrome extensions for constantly changing sites. However, you could implement checks that notify you quickly of any breaking changes. I don't have the code hosted publicly on GitHub, but you can use sites like this one to obtain it. The code for this extension is not obfuscated. Source: about 1 year ago
Go to https://crxextractor.com/ and use the link from the downloadhelper download page (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/video-downloadhelper/lmjnegcaeklhafolokijcfjliaokphfk) download the crx and then go to brave://extensions/ and enable developer mode and drag and drop the crx file. Chrome extensions are written in Javascript. In fact, you can look at the full source code for any Chrome extension you want - you can find where it's downloaded on your computer (~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/Extensions for Mac) or you can use a website like this to download it. P.S. You can always grab the code from https://crxextractor.com itโs a bit messy, but thats my style of coding :). Source: over 1 year ago
So they are doing what they say they are doing, which is avoiding Google from tracking you (if they do) when you update extensions, you can also avoid using the store by using https://crxextractor.com/ so you get the crx and drag and drop (as dev mode) if you want automatic updates. So you can avoid Google in a way already, but it is a dream to think Brave will be completely free from Google being a Chromium fork,... Source: over 1 year ago

Well, that's weird. What if you use https://crxextractor.com/ and download it through there, it should be added automatically, I mean, all installing extension does is to add it to the Secured Preferences and put the files where they belong and then it works, but in Secured Preferences is the update info and all that so it is weird it is not working on your side. Installed Ungoogled Chromium from GitHub apt-get for Debian and ran this link (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm) for uBlockOrigin through https://crxextractor.com, and set chrome flag for extension-mime-request-handling to "Always prompt for instal", which installed uBlockOrigin onto Ungoogled Chromium on Linux.
