ToolKnit started from a simple frustration: needing a small thing done โ compress a PDF, convert a WebP, count characters in an essay โ and ending up on a different ad-heavy, signup-walled site every time, often with files getting uploaded to unknown servers. The goal was to build one fast, clean, privacy-first place that does all of those small jobs in the browser, with no accounts, no uploads, and no premium tier. Every tool added since has followed the same rule: if it can't run client-side, it doesn't ship.
