Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing TinyURL and url2.us.

What makes your product unique?

url2.us's answer:

Three things set it apart:

  • Edge-resilient redirects. Short links are served from Cloudflare's edge (Workers + KV), so they keep working even if our origin is completely offline — events queue during outages and replay on recovery with zero data loss. Most shorteners are one server behind one DNS record; if it dies, every link 404s.
  • Privacy-respecting analytics. Aggregate-only — country, city, device, browser, OS, referrer, and hour — with no raw IP storage and no per-visitor tracking.
  • Affordable, and genuinely free to start. Unlimited custom domains from $9/mo, plus a free tier that's actually usable: unlimited links, the full analytics suite, and 5,000 tracked events/month, no credit card.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

url2.us's answer:

If you want branded short links with real analytics and reliable redirects without enterprise pricing, url2.us is built for you:

  • Cheaper custom domains. Bitly's equivalent tier starts around $30/mo; url2.us gives you unlimited custom domains at $9/mo.
  • Privacy by default. Unlike marketing-first shorteners that pitch "see who clicked," analytics stay aggregate-only — we never track individual visitors.
  • Links that stay up. Our edge architecture keeps redirects working through origin outages.
  • Built for developers. A real REST API (up to 10,000 req/min), 6 webhook event types, and city-level geo analytics.

And you can start free, with no credit card.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

url2.us's answer:

Developers and small teams who need branded short links, dependable redirects, and real analytics — without enterprise prices or sacrificing privacy. Typical users:

  • Indie developers and founders putting short links into production
  • Marketing and product teams that want custom-domain branding plus webhooks for integrations
  • Privacy-conscious users who don't want a shortener profiling the people who click

It's API-first, so it slots naturally into developer workflows.

What's the story behind your product?

url2.us's answer:

url2.us started from frustration with the existing options. Every shortener fell into one of two camps: cheap tools on a single server that 404 every link the moment their origin goes down, or enterprise platforms charging $30+/month for custom-domain branding while pushing "see exactly who clicked" as a feature. We wanted a shortener we'd actually trust with a production redirect — one where links survive outages, custom domains are affordable, and analytics respect the people doing the clicking. So we put the redirect path on Cloudflare's edge, made unlimited custom domains a $9/mo feature, and built analytics that are aggregate-only by design. It's built and run by a solo founder as part of a portfolio of small, sustainable SaaS tools.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

url2.us's answer:

  • Backend: ASP.NET Core (.NET 10) Minimal API
  • Data: PostgreSQL (analytics) + Redis (caching & rate limiting)
  • Frontend: React + Vite + Tailwind CSS
  • Edge / redirects: Cloudflare Workers + KV + Queues
  • Billing: Stripe (Checkout + Billing Portal)
  • Custom-domain TLS: Caddy (on-demand TLS)
  • Geo-IP: MaxMind GeoLite2-City
  • Infrastructure: Docker

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

url2.us's answer:

  • Indie developers and small teams running branded short links in production
  • Marketing and product teams that need custom-domain branding and webhooks
