For how to actively distribute the newsletters if you go the email route thereโs several services (unless youโre cool with just whacking everyoneโs email into a BCC list and sending manually, of course) you might find Tiny Letter useful. Itโs 100% free and intended for exactly this sort of content and handles important things like unsubscribe functionality. That said is does seem to require a postal address that... Apache Karaf with OSGi works pretty nice using annotation based dependency injection with the declarative services, removing the need to mess with those hopefully archaic XML blueprints. Too bad it's not as trendy as spring and the developers so many of the tutorials can be a bit dated and hard to find.
