TaxLens App's answer
Most receipt scanners stop at reading numbers from receipts. TaxLens goes further โ it understands tax rules. The AI evaluates whether each expense is deductible based on your profession, business type, and country, then automatically separates Business from Personal spending. A $500 camera purchase is categorized differently for a photographer than for a consultant, because tax rules treat them differently. No other receipt scanner at this price point combines profession-aware tax categorization with audit-ready exports.

Three reasons: focus, simplicity, and cost.
Focus: Expensify and QuickBooks are built for corporate expense management with team workflows and approval chains. TaxLens is purpose-built for one thing โ helping freelancers and small business owners maximize tax deductions.
Simplicity: Most finance apps become complex bookkeeping systems that casual users abandon after a few weeks. TaxLens intentionally stays lightweight โ scan a receipt in 5 seconds, get it categorized, and move on.
Cost: Enterprise tools charge $20+/user/month. TaxLens Pro starts at $3.33/month (yearly plan), with a generous free tier for getting started.

Freelancers, self-employed professionals, and small business owners who file taxes and need to track deductible expenses โ but don't want to learn complex accounting software.
Specifically: designers, developers, photographers, writers, consultants, contractors, real estate agents, and sole proprietors. They earn $40K-$200K/year, use mobile apps daily, and know they're leaving money on the table every tax season because their receipt tracking is either nonexistent or unreliable.
TaxLens App's answer
TaxLens was born out of personal frustration. As a freelancer, I dreaded tax season every year โ not because of filing, but because of the weeks spent digging through shoeboxes, scrolling through camera rolls, and guessing which expenses were deductible.
I tried Expensify, QuickBooks, and a dozen receipt scanner apps. They were either too complex (built for corporate teams), too expensive, or too generic โ they could read a receipt but had no idea whether the expense was a legitimate tax write-off.
So I built TaxLens: a receipt scanner that actually understands tax rules. It knows that a home office chair is deductible for a remote consultant but not for a restaurant employee. It separates business from personal automatically. And it exports audit-ready reports that my accountant actually likes receiving.
The goal is simple โ help independent workers keep more of what they earn, with less stress at tax time.

This is why the gate needs a trace it can trust, and why AgentLens is the other half of this workflow. agent-eval scores and gates the output; AgentLens captures the trace of how the agent got there โ every model call and tool step, the resolved inputs (not the templated ones), the raw outputs. That trace is exactly the unforgeable, agent-didn't-author substrate that Tier 1+2 need to score against. Without it,... - Source: dev.to / 8 days ago
