Scappman is an excellent option if you want to go fully hosted, especially with a multi-tenant environment where App Sets will change your life! The advanced features are excellent, I’m a fan of the deployment rings in particular and the ability to add custom apps is one feature which Patch My PC is currently lacking. It does come at a cost though and whilst $11 per user,...

  • Thoughts on Windows 11?
I use the start menu app list and hate how you can’t get that instantly on windows 11 (there’s a button you have to click). I used this program to restore the windows 10 start menu that has been tweaked to look more like windows 11. The only problem I have is that some programs don’t appear. You can still search them, but they aren’t in the list. You could probably drop your own shortcuts in there if it bothers... Source: 11 months ago

Just use this Shell from Nilesoft https://nilesoft.org. Runs beautifully and you don’t mess with the registry. Source: 11 months ago

  • Is windows 11 worth it?
Check out nilesoft shell https://nilesoft.org. It reskins the right click menu to contain all options in a windows 11 style. I use it on all my computers and it works great. Source: 12 months ago

  • Is it preferred to overwrite old program versions, uninstall before installing the new one, or to use portables?

  • Existence of Windows Transfer Utility?
If you want to buy Macrium Reflect you can redeploy your old computer's image on to your new computer - MR sorts out the different hardware driver issues - but quite frankly it's usually best to copy over your personal files, fresh install 3rd-party software with something like Ninite, Patch My PC or WingetUI and then export the settings and app data over from the old computer. • Microsoft Store in Perpetual Update (I've tried everything Google has had to say but to no avail)
What I'm thinking now is you may just want to solve this with the nuclear option like this guy did - https://old.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/f4tw3k/cannot_open_any_microsoft_store_apps_windows/ A pain in the ass, but most 3rd-party applications can export settings, and a program like Patch My PC or winstall can reinstall software quickly. • Reset & Backup On Win11
If you image your whole drive and then restore it, you'll be right back in the same exact place you are now. Back up your personal files, 3rd-party software settings (where possible) and browser bookmarks to external storage, do a PC reset from settings using the cloud option, reinstall 3rd-party software with Ninite or Patch My PC.
