Doorstep is a free app for first-time homebuyers that answers one question: what can I actually afford?

Unlike traditional mortgage calculators that give you a static number once and disappear, Doorstep tracks your buying power daily. As mortgage rates change and your finances improve, your number updates automatically. No more guessing.

THE PROBLEM WE SOLVE

Zillow shows you homes you can't afford. Mint tracks your money but can't connect it to real estate. First-time buyers spend months browsing listings with no idea if they're realistic. Then they talk to a lender and discover they're $100K off.

HOW DOORSTEP WORKS

Get your real number - We calculate what you can truly afford based on income, debts, savings, and current rates. Updated daily.

Browse homes that fit - Every listing is pre-filtered to your finances. Fall in love with homes you can actually buy.

Know where you stand - A readiness score across 8 dimensions shows exactly what's holding you back: credit, savings, debt, and more.

Close the gap - Personalized action plans help you improve your buying power and reach your goal faster.

Connect when ready - Find vetted local agents on your terms. No lead farms, no spam calls, no pressure.

WHO IT'S FOR

First-time homebuyers 6-18 months away from purchasing who want clarity, not sales pitches. Renters wondering if they can afford to buy. Anyone tired of browsing homes they'll never own.

100% free. No credit check. 2-minute setup. Available on iOS and Android.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing ParseHub and Doorstep.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Doorstep's answer:

React Native with Expo for iOS and Android apps React and TypeScript for the web platform Node.js and Express for the backend API MongoDB for data storage Plaid for optional bank account integration

What makes your product unique?

Doorstep's answer:

Doorstep is the only app that tracks your home buying power daily instead of giving you a one-time calculation. While calculators show a static number, we update automatically as mortgage rates change and your finances improve. We also pre-filter every home listing to what you can actually afford, so you never fall in love with something out of reach. And when you're ready for an agent, you initiate the connection and share your profile with them. No lead farms selling your info the moment you enter your email.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Doorstep's answer:

Zillow shows you homes without knowing your finances. Redfin and Trulia do the same. Mint tracks your money but has no connection to real estate. Doorstep bridges the gap by combining real-time financial tracking with personalized home browsing. You get a clear readiness score, see exactly what's holding you back, and follow a step-by-step plan to close the gap. It's free for buyers, requires no credit check, and takes 2 minutes to set up.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Doorstep's answer:

First-time homebuyers who are 6 to 18 months away from purchasing. Renters wondering if they can afford to buy. Young professionals tired of browsing homes they'll never own. Anyone who wants clarity on their real buying power without talking to a lender or getting bombarded with sales calls.

What's the story behind your product?

Doorstep's answer:

We watched friends and family fall in love with homes they couldn't afford only to find out months later when a lender broke the news. The tools that exist either ignore your finances (Zillow) or ignore real estate (Mint). We built Doorstep to answer one question clearly: what can I actually afford today? And we update that answer every single day. We were founded by three Denver area natives, two of which are military veterans.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Doorstep's answer:

We're launching in January 2026 and currently building our early access waitlist. Our target users are first-time homebuyers across the United States, starting with Colorado where we are developing relationships with brokers. The app will launch nationwide, however.
