Instant Replay is a replay system for OBS Studio built for live broadcasts โ€” sports, esports, fight cards, concerts and corporate events. OBS Studio's built-in Replay Buffer saves clips to disk, but has no way to play them back on-stream with broadcast controls. Instant Replay fills that gap.

It runs as an OBS Browser Dock and provides slow-motion playback from 0.1x to 2x with frame-by-frame stepping, a replay queue for chaining clips into a single on-air sequence, an ad/bumper manager with up to 25 video slots, color-coded clip categories, and Stream Deck control through global hotkeys. It also includes an automatic highlight scanner that reviews long recordings and flags action moments using motion and audio analysis.

Instant Replay runs on Windows 10/11 and macOS 12+. It is a commercial product with a one-time license or a monthly membership, both with a 14-day free trial that requires no credit card. A free interactive browser demo of the full interface is available at https://instanrp.com/demo

Instant Replay is an independent third-party tool, not affiliated with the OBS Project.

Overall verdict

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing OpenStack and Instant Replay.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Instant Replay's answer:

It works inside the OBS setup broadcasters already use, so there's no extra hardware or separate production software to buy. Clips stay on your own computer โ€” no cloud uploads, no per-stream fees, no upload limits. It offers slow-motion down to 0.1ร—, frame-by-frame review, a replay queue, and one-button Stream Deck triggers. A free interactive browser demo lets you try the full interface before installing anything.

What makes your product unique?

Instant Replay's answer:

Instant Replay adds broadcast-grade replay directly to OBS Studio. Hardware replay decks cost five figures, and full vision mixers bundle replay into software you may not otherwise need. Instant Replay runs as an OBS Browser Dock โ€” slow-motion, a replay queue, frame-by-frame review and Stream Deck control โ€” with no extra hardware and no separate window.

What's the story behind your product?

Instant Replay's answer:

Instant Replay started because broadcast-quality replays were only available through expensive hardware decks or full production suites. OBS Studio had a Replay Buffer that saved clips to disk, but no real way to play them back on-stream with proper controls. Instant Replay was built to fill that exact gap โ€” a replay system that runs on a normal PC or Mac, inside OBS.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Instant Replay's answer:

Instant Replay runs as a Browser Dock built with web technologies and connects to OBS Studio through the OBS WebSocket API. Video processing is handled with FFmpeg, and highlight detection uses motion analysis and audio-peak detection.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Instant Replay's answer:

  • Independent sports broadcasters
  • Esports tournament organizers
  • Corporate event productions
  • Live music streamers

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Instant Replay's answer:

Live broadcasters who already use OBS Studio: sports, soccer, baseball, boxing, high school and college sports, esports tournaments, independent pro wrestling, concerts, and corporate event productions โ€” anyone running a live stream that needs instant replays and slow-motion without a dedicated hardware replay system.
