Before switching to Quantum I was using noip.com and my previous router had setup options so it would auto-update this service when my WAN IP changed. I'd prefer to use noip.com but I guess I don't really mind a switch to dyndns. I would just like to have something working - anyone know how to configure this modem for dynamic DNS? First: static public IP is not necessary for selfhosting small services. The reason you want static ip is because when you have dynamic dns, it takes time for the DNS records to update when your IP changes. It makes sense to have static ip if you're a business hosting a website so you have zero downtime. In fact, before I bought my own domain name, I simply used a free address from noip.com! Your internet looks good, though download speeds aren't everything. I'd probably use 6gb ram. Make sure you trust whoever's joining your server, since they connect by your IP. You can use a service like no-ip if you want a prettier ip to connect to, though then you're trusting them with your IP (not a huge deal but something to consider). I wanted to like Porkbun but failed to buy a .io domain through them because of technical problems on their end. Their website is also a bit programmer-y and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone non-technical. (Eg UX of login flow includes "Leave password blank if using a passkey or passwordless login.") For my .ie domains I use blacknight, hate it but cant be bothered to change, for everything else I use hover.com. They havnt caused me any problems but I don't actually use them for dns thats just where buy the domain. Source: about 3 years ago
Hey, I am currently creating a multilingual website with Polylang and I want to use two domains. How do I need to setup the domains for it to work? I bought the domains on hover.com and I use Siteground as my hoster, so I changed the nameservers from hover to Siteground for both domains. What else do I need to setup and where exactly? At first I was trying to get the hover.com emails to work but their support even recommended going with someone else so I went with MailGun but now I feel like I've either done something wrong from the beginning and need to redo it all or I simply just don't understand what it is I need to do. Beware of "free" domain names or hosting with domain name. It's important that you and you only, control your domain name. If you get a "free" name with a hosting service, you may be tied to that service, no matter how lousy or expensive they become, because they control your domain name.
