As answered by people managing Memrise and Eppika.
Eppika's answer:
Eppika combines language learning with reading books people actually want to finish. Instead of focusing on isolated words and repetitive drills, learners read and listen to complete stories adapted to their level. With 3,000+ books across 17 languages, Eppika integrates instant translation, native audio, saved vocabulary, and flashcards directly into the reading experience, so learners can stay immersed in the story while building real language skills.
Eppika's answer:
Eppika was created by three founders — Max, Nick, and Kristi — who share a love of reading and learning languages. They wanted an app where people could learn inside real stories rather than through a sequence of disconnected exercises. The team started building the reading experience they wanted to use themselves: carefully selected books adapted to different language levels, combined with native narration and tools that make unfamiliar vocabulary easier to understand. The goal is simple: help learners finish their first book in a new language — and then their next one.
Eppika's answer:
Eppika is a strong fit for learners who want to move beyond short language exercises and start using the language in context. Books are adapted from A1 to C1, allowing users to read at a comfortable level and progress gradually. Learners can read and listen to native narration, translate unfamiliar words with one tap, save useful vocabulary, and review it later with flashcards — all without leaving the story.
Eppika's answer:
Eppika is primarily designed for adult language learners who enjoy reading and want a more meaningful alternative to drill-based learning. It is especially useful for intermediate learners who know vocabulary and grammar but still struggle to read complete texts comfortably, as well as people who already use traditional language apps and want to put what they have learned into practice. Eppika also works well for lifelong learners and adults learning languages for travel, family, or personal development.

It is slow and designed to be easy. In its defense it is a casual app designed to be used casually. On the other hand, I took the German and Dutch courses in 2019-2020 and got enough basis in them to be able to now listen/watch content... Source: over 3 years ago
