One hardly needs to soar to the exalted heights of "mysticism" or any sort of "ineffable qualities" to come into contact with the limitations of LLMs. 1) Models do not perform the functional equivalent of reasoning at all. When we reason, we don't simply babble out textual derivations of prior examples of "reasoning" to which we have been exposed, arrive at a conclusion, then occasionally state an altogether... - Source: Hacker News / about 14 hours ago

Not a new phenomena - performance per dollar has been fairly steadily exponentialling since 1900 or so 1900 - 2010 https://www.thekurzweillibrary.com/exponential-growth-of-computing 1939 - 2023 https://medium.com/@timventura/kurzweils-law-for-the-ai-age-b00e82c84d5c. - Source: Hacker News / 3 days ago
QB House and its many imitators would like a word. It's a genuine mystery to me why these "fast haircut" chains are ubiquitous in Asia but unknown in the West. https://medium.com/@justin.tan/qb-house-back-to-basics-business-model-innovation-in-the-mens-haircutting-industry-c23893095e13. - Source: Hacker News / 4 days ago
It has. We can see 3.5 started with text adventure games https://medium.com/@duncanariey/using-chatgpt-to-make-the-ittiest-bittiest-text-based-adventure-game-f642e8da4dad and with 4.0 it moved up to pong https://x.com/skirano/status/1635736107949195278 As the generations increase, so too has the complexity of the games it can one-shot. - Source: Hacker News / 5 days ago

True social media needs people who are not going to do anything more complicated than "go to website, sign up". there's no world where setting up your own pds is that simple without an organized piece of software to do that kind of thing. personally, I could probably get behind recommending something like umbrel[0], if it included something like a... - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
What I would want to have some company to make one device that would at the same time be: 1) router 2) smart tv (airplay, chromecast, miracast) 3) smart speaker 4) smart home gateway (matter) 5) wireless charging pad 6) private cloud (nextcloud) 7) private backup (removable nvm) 8) private vpn / dns / pihole / adguard 9) mini server Everything in a nice package and preconfigure and ideally modular (upgradable ssd,... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
Umbrel[0] maybe? I posted a list of related services here[1] as well, though most of them are cloud based. [0]: https://umbrel.com/ [1]: https://forum.indiebits.io/t/open-identities/500/12. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
Have you checked out Umbrel[1]? You can self-host Umbrel on your own hardware[2] as well. I'm not sure if they allow for multiple nodes that can stay in sync. If (/once) they do, it'd solve for disasters / availability. [1]: https://umbrel.com [2]: https://github.com/getumbrel/umbrel. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
