The amazing thing is that there is almost always an open-source alternative that is 10x better in many ways, in the case of slack https://mattermost.com/ I'm looking forward for AI to make it very easy to deploy your own tools and walk away from all this SAAS. slack, jira, notion, even google suite AI makes the cost of software development much lower, which means you can have a very good alternative that you can... - Source: Hacker News / 15 days ago

Slack's value is real, especially for cross-company conversations with clients and vendors. But for internal communication in companies that care about data residency or audit requirements, Mattermost is a credible self-hosted alternative. To be honest, since you are just getting started, I think you should reconsider simplifying this app to begin with. Built something easier and get some more experience before jumping in the ocean. Maybe start by focusing only on the parent company and sub-companies. However, I strongly recommend you to try and make a diagram of your database with relations and columns as it can you a lot of time. I personally use... Source: about 3 years ago
