DEV.to Reviews

  1. It is a nice mini-blog, it's for free and such but

As a mini-blog, it is a nice alternative for Medium to publish and share information about programming.

However, the community and the organization are biased toward social justice (and they are open to it). You can read its Code of Conduct, it is so vague and politically leads (I prefer a term of service because it defines fair rules for everybody). So it alienates developers that we don't care about politics in pro of people that want to talk about any other topic such as sexuality, how women are unprivileged, and such. It even mandates to use inclusive language. Good grief.

My main complaint is the quality of the community. It is not StackOverflow (so we don't want to ask for an answer here), and most of the top topics are clickbait, such as "how to become a rockstar developer in ... days", "100 tips to become a better programmer" (and it doesn't even talk about programming).

Technically this "mini blog" site allows us to use markdown, and it is okay. However, the whole experience is really basic. Even the template is ugly.

  • Am i applying to jobs wrong?
In the US, even just looking at indeed and filtering out the scam ones there's tons of applications I can send out each day for companies I've never heard of before. Other than that try to find alternative job boards, handshake or even something like a google query like the following: site:http://lever.co/ | site:http://greenhouse.io/ | site:http://app.dover.io/ | site:http://jobs.ashbyhq.com/ (developer |... • Appreciation for Lever
God I love Lever so much. Whoever made Lever doesn't know just how much I appreciate them, fighting against those cursed portals like Workday, ICIMS, and Brassring to make the grueling application process so much more bearable just by being simple and friendly. Every time I see an internship application direct to a lever.co site, I have a small celebration in my brain. Thank you Lever. Source: about 3 years ago
  • is there a job board that I can only see jobs posted by companies through lever.co? I don't have an interest in applying for companies that make you enter your education/work info manually.
Basically the title. If I'm going to apply for google, microsoft, etc. I would totally go through the process and fill out the application form. But sometimes I just randomly want to pass my CV and see what sticks. In that case, I just want to limit myself to companies that only need a CV and have a one-click submission process like lever.co. • Client-side semantic search for your static site
The search box on the homepage now runs keyword, semantic, and hybrid search, with a toggle so you can compare and watch them disagree. Type pydub and flip to semantic mode to see it get the answer wrong; flip to hybrid to see it get it right again. The whole thing is a 4 MB lookup table, a tiny document index, and about 300 lines of dependency-free JavaScript, lazy-loaded only when you focus the search box so the... - Source: dev.to / 2 days ago
