Lesskeys is a native macOS app for recording, transcribing and keeping your conversations โ entirely on your own machine.
Record any call, meeting, lecture or interview: system audio, your microphone and the screen or a single window, captured together as one video file. Every recording becomes an accurate transcript with automatic speaker labels, and Lesskeys learns voices so the same person is recognised across different recordings.
The part that compounds is the archive. Instead of a folder of audio files nobody opens again, you get something searchable โ look inside what was actually said across every recording you own, filter by speaker, recording or date range, match an exact phrase. Click a result and the transcript opens at that line with the video in sync. Export to TXT, SRT or WebVTT.
It also does system-wide dictation: press one hotkey in any app, talk, and the text lands on your clipboard in any of 99 languages with automatic language detection. Plus a searchable clipboard manager, text replacements and per-app settings.

Coming from a video editing background, Descript might take some getting used to. But once you figure it out, it speeds up your editing (especially interviews/long-form voiceover). The captions are very nice to work with, but a bit limited in terms of styles. There are a lot more caption styles, transitions, and effects in CapCut, but Descript excels in simplicity and speed.
The saved layouts (you can make your own) are very good if you want to create a bunch of videos on different topics with the same design scheme or branding.

For transcripts, I use Descript. Descript is able to identify all four of our panel members, and I usually spend an hour or so cleaning it up and setting the transcript into a video for YouTube. Source: about 3 years ago
