Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Grow and HitCounters.

What makes your product unique?

HitCounters's answer:

Three things that other analytics tools do separately, HitCounters does together:

Real-time visibility. Live visitor map and visitor logs that update as people land on your site — not "today's sessions, processed every 24 hours."

AI traffic detection as a first-class concept. ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Copilot are tracked as their own traffic source category — not lumped in with generic referrals. You can see how much of your traffic is humans, search, social, and AI separately.

Privacy-first by default. Uses localStorage scoped per-site, not cross-site cookies. No cookie banner required. GDPR-compliant out of the box without any configuration.

Most analytics tools nail one of these. HitCounters covers all three without bolt-ons or premium tiers.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

HitCounters's answer:

vs. Google Analytics 4: Setup takes 2 minutes instead of 2 hours. Dashboard shows you what's happening, not metric definitions. No cookie banner required. Real-time means real-time — not 5-minute aggregations.

vs. Plausible / Fathom / Simple Analytics: HitCounters includes a true real-time visitor map and AI traffic detection — those tools are batch-aggregated and don't separate AI traffic from generic referrals. Also includes bot scoring (0-100) on every visit so junk traffic doesn't pollute your numbers.

vs. Statcounter: Modern UX, mobile-responsive dashboard, real install guides for every platform (WordPress plugin, Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Carrd, React).

Free plan is real (not a trial — it stays free forever for low-traffic sites). Paid plans start at $9.99/month with no per-seat pricing.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

HitCounters's answer:

People who closed GA4 in frustration. Specifically:

Independent website owners and bloggers who want to see their visitors in real-time without a learning curriculum Small-to-medium business owners running Shopify, Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress sites SaaS founders tracking marketing landing pages, signup funnels, and AI-driven traffic Agencies managing multiple client sites (team-member access included, no per-seat fees) Privacy-conscious site owners in regulated industries who can't deploy cookie-based tracking The unifying characteristic: people who want answers, not a dashboard that requires three certifications to interpret.

What's the story behind your product?

HitCounters's answer:

Built because GA4 made every basic question harder than it needed to be.

Google replaced Universal Analytics with GA4 in 2023 and buried "how many people are on my site right now" behind several menus, new terminology, and a delayed data pipeline. For website owners who just wanted the simple, real-time visibility we used to have, GA4 wasn't a real replacement.

HitCounters was built from scratch as the tool I actually wanted: real-time visitor logs, a live visitor map, AI traffic detection (treating ChatGPT/Claude/Perplexity as first-class traffic sources rather than ignoring them), bot scoring on every visit, and a dashboard that's understandable in 30 seconds.

The name is a callback to the simple hit counters that lived on every site in the late '90s — instant, visible, no setup required. But with modern analytics architecture behind it.
