Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing GitHub and DocsToAudio.online.

What makes your product unique?

DocsToAudio.online's answer:

DocsToAudio runs entirely in the browser โ€” your documents are never uploaded to a server and nothing is stored on our end. No sign-up, no size limits, free forever.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

DocsToAudio.online's answer:

Most competitors require an account, charge for usage, or impose file size limits. DocsToAudio has none of those. Zero friction. Drop a file, pick a voice, get audio โ€” no account, no paywall, no waiting. With 300+ AI voices across 50+ languages, chapter selection, text editing before conversion, and both MP3 and M4B output, it covers everything most users need without asking anything in return. It's the only tool in this space that is genuinely free with no hidden limits.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

DocsToAudio.online's answer:

Readers and learners who want to consume long-form content on the go โ€” people with large e-book libraries, students processing research papers, professionals catching up on reports during a commute, and anyone who prefers listening over reading. It's also popular with accessibility-focused users who benefit from text-to-speech.

What's the story behind your product?

DocsToAudio.online's answer:

DocsToAudio was built out of a personal frustration: existing tools either charged for basic conversions, required an account just to try the product, or produced audio with no chapter structure. The goal was a no-nonsense converter that respects your privacy (nothing leaves your browser), works with the formats people actually use, and outputs files that work in real audiobook players โ€” all without costing anything.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

DocsToAudio.online's answer:

DocsToAudio is a free consumer tool with no accounts, so we don't have named enterprise customers. Our users are individual readers, students, and knowledge workers worldwide who convert their personal document libraries and reading lists into audio.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

DocsToAudio.online's answer:

Next.js 16 (React 19), TypeScript, Tailwind CSS 4, deployed on Vercel. Document parsing uses PDF.js (PDF), epub.js (EPUB), and Mammoth (DOCX). Text-to-speech synthesis uses neural AI voices across 300+ voice options and 50+ languages. Audio assembly uses FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, running fully client-side. The database layer uses Neon (serverless Postgres).

This is why eval and observability ship as a unit, not as separate purchases. agent-eval scores and gates the output โ€” the tiers above, drift, hallucination. The real fragility is in trying to constrain arguments. The docs are explicit that a pattern like Bash(curl http://github.com/ *) fails to do what it looks like it does.
