The tool receives regular updates and improvements, ensuring that it remains functional and integrates new features.
  • Collaborative Features
Dungeon Scrawl supports collaborative work, allowing multiple users to work on the same map simultaneously.

Possible disadvantages of Dungeon Scrawl

  • Limited Asset Library
Compared to some other mapping tools, Dungeon Scrawl has a more limited library of assets and icons, which may restrict some users' creativity.
  • Internet Dependency
Since it is web-based, users must have a stable internet connection to access and use the tool, which can be a hindrance in offline scenarios.
  • Performance Issues
For larger, more complex maps, the performance may decrease, causing potential lag and slower responsiveness.
  • Learning Curve for Advanced Features
While the basic features are user-friendly, some of the more advanced options can take time for new users to master.
  • Limited Integration
Dungeon Scrawl has limited integration with other tabletop RPG systems and software, which might require users to rely on multiple tools.
  • Potential for Bugs
As with any evolving platform, users may encounter occasional bugs or technical issues that can disrupt the map creation process.
  • Lack of Mobile Optimization
The tool may not be fully optimized for mobile use, making it less convenient for users who prefer to work on tablets or smartphones.

React Server features and specs

  • Server-side rendering built-in
React Server provides built-in server-side rendering (SSR) out of the box, which improves initial page load performance and SEO without requiring complex custom setup.
  • Fast page transitions
React Server supports fast client-side page transitions after the initial server render, giving users a smooth single-page application experience while retaining SSR benefits.
  • Built on React
Since it is built on top of React, developers already familiar with React can leverage their existing knowledge and the vast React ecosystem of components and libraries.
  • Code splitting and lazy loading
React Server supports automatic code splitting and lazy loading of components, which helps reduce the initial bundle size and improves page load times for end users.
  • Simplified SSR configuration
Compared to setting up SSR manually with React, React Server abstracts away much of the complexity involved in server rendering, routing, and hydration, making it easier to get started.

Possible disadvantages of React Server

  • Small community and ecosystem
React Server has a relatively small community compared to mainstream frameworks like Next.js or Remix, which means fewer tutorials, third-party plugins, and community support resources are available.
  • Limited maintenance and updates
The project has seen limited active development and maintenance over time, raising concerns about long-term viability, bug fixes, and compatibility with newer versions of React.
  • Sparse documentation
The documentation for React Server is not as comprehensive or well-maintained as that of more popular alternatives, making it harder for new developers to learn and troubleshoot issues.
  • Fewer features compared to alternatives
Compared to mature frameworks like Next.js, React Server lacks many modern features such as API routes, built-in image optimization, incremental static regeneration, and a rich plugin ecosystem.
  • Risk of project abandonment
Given the low activity on the project's repository and the dominance of competing frameworks, there is a risk that the project may become abandoned, leaving adopters without future support or updates.

Analysis of React Server

Overall verdict

  • React Server (react-server.io) is a specialized framework for building server-rendered React applications with a focus on performance and simplified architecture, but I don't have verified, up-to-date information confirming its current status, adoption, or quality compared to alternatives like Next.js or Remix. I'd recommend researching current reviews and documentation directly before making a decision.

Why this product is good

  • Claims to offer server-side rendering capabilities for React applications
  • May provide an alternative approach to SSR compared to more established frameworks
  • Specific technical merits would depend on your project requirements and current documentation

Recommended for

  • Teams willing to evaluate niche or less mainstream frameworks
  • Projects where established frameworks like Next.js don't fit specific architectural needs
  • Users who should verify current features, community support, and maintenance status before adopting

  • Map Swap - Take a map, leave a map
Here's a map I made for part of the Wave Echo Cave from Lost Mines of Phandelver. I wanted the forge of spells to be more visually impactful and give combat there more options, so I elevated it on a platform. I also had an octagonal theme going through out the dwarves architecture. Lots of fun! (Online made on dungeonscrawl.com, then drawn over in procreate). Source: over 3 years ago
  • I'm new to being a dm and could use some advice
I like WorldAnvil for content management. I don't know if that would be helpful. I also use Owlbear Rodeo for actually running maps and often Dungeon Scrawl for drawing maps. I also use the chalkboard in my garage. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Day 3 - Using DungeonScrawl.com
Oh ^^ here I used dungeonscrawl.com as mentioned in the title to create this neat dungeon :) maybe in february I switch to pen and paper ^^. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Elemental Dungeon
I drew the circles and the oval seperately then used it as a blue print on dungeonscrawl.com. Afterwards I redrew all the areas with different layers/masks to add seperate images (from the internet) as floors for each area. Source: over 3 years ago
  • New DM looking for help
For actual dungeon MAP making, I find the website https://dungeonscrawl.com/ to be the easiest, and best to use and it’s 100% free. It also works well to hand to the players so they can map out the dungeon as they go. Source: about 4 years ago
