Kickpad features and specs

  • Simple and Lightweight
Kickpad is a minimalist drum pad application written in Go, making it easy to understand, modify, and deploy without heavy dependencies or complex setup procedures.
  • Open Source
The project is fully open source under a permissive license on GitHub, allowing users to freely inspect, modify, and contribute to the codebase.
  • Written in Go
Being written in Go provides benefits such as easy cross-compilation, good performance, static binary compilation, and a straightforward build process for developers familiar with the Go ecosystem.
  • Low Resource Usage
As a simple drum pad utility, Kickpad is designed to be lightweight and consume minimal system resources compared to full-featured digital audio workstations or complex music production software.
  • Quick Prototyping Tool
Kickpad can serve as a quick and accessible tool for experimenting with drum sounds and beat patterns without needing to set up a full music production environment.

Possible disadvantages of Kickpad

  • Limited Features
Kickpad is a very basic tool with minimal functionality compared to professional drum machines or DAW software. It lacks advanced features like sequencing, effects processing, or MIDI support that serious musicians would expect.
  • Small Community and Limited Support
The project has a very small user base and limited community engagement, meaning finding help, tutorials, or community-contributed improvements can be difficult.
  • Minimal Documentation
The project has sparse documentation, which can make it challenging for new users to understand all available features, configuration options, or how to extend the software.
  • Limited Sound Library
Kickpad comes with a very limited set of built-in sounds, and expanding the sound library may require manual effort without a streamlined process for importing or managing audio samples.
  • Niche Use Case
The tool serves a very narrow purpose as a simple drum pad, which limits its appeal and usefulness for most musicians or developers who typically need more comprehensive audio tools.

  • Drum Computer (Plugin & App) generates random drum beats and sounds. Is there anything like it in hardware?
The best / only app that I've found to do this is Drum Computer by Sugar Bytes. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Some advice to new producersโ€ฆ donโ€™t waste your time and money!
Have a look at Sugar Bytes' DrumComputer, it does some really cool stuff with synthesis and modulation. I don't know if it'll get a rytm sound necessarily but it's really interesting. I got it on iOS but I might get it again in VST when they next have a sale. Source: over 3 years ago
  • Hi! New in this genre, and i have a doubt abour how to make a drumkit like this
It could be samples that have been glitchified, but it sounds to me very much like 'Drum Computer'. Source: almost 4 years ago
  • What's your preferred Drum VST for Ableton
I tend to use Ableton Drum Racks (I loooove the AG kit), but if we are talking dedicated VSTs, I really really like Drumcomputer by SugarBytes. Itโ€™s very fun to use, quite deep and very versatile. Money very well spent, I think. Source: about 4 years ago
  • Best drum software for edm/pop music.
