Did you try logging into dropbox.com and checking there? Often the files remain online even if they are removed locallY. You have to log in with the same account you deleted Locally. Source: 10 months ago
Dropbox: You absolutely NEED backups. Ideally, both physical and cloud backups, because if you only have one backup, you're not backed up. I can't even begin to tell you how many writers have lost days, weeks, or even entire novels worth of work because they failed to back up their work, then had their computer break or had some weird software snafu. I'm also in IT and if this has been going on for over 24 hrs already and is project for another 24 hrs something BAD is going on. Ransomware????? I've heard a lot about BitTitan but have never used it. And yeah, most of my migrations have been an onsite exchange server to the o365 cloud and go really smooth. The others are usually some free email that comes with the webhost, like rackspace.com email where the owner who has 5-10 employees waited until they were hacked before switching over.
