convert.express is a web-based transcription service that converts audio and video recordings into text using automatic speech recognition. Users upload a file or paste a link, and receive a transcript downloadable as plain text, PDF, or an SRT or VTT subtitle file; any of these can also be translated, keeping the original file format.

Transcription runs on OpenAI Whisper, Microsoft MAI-Transcribe 1.5, or Google Gemini 3.5 Transcribe, chosen per job for language coverage, turnaround speed, entity biasing, or speaker diarization. The spoken language is detected automatically; 64 languages are supported for transcription (translation, described below, covers 103). Input formats include MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, OPUS, WMA and AMR audio, and MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and M4V video, up to 2 GB per file. Files can also be imported from a YouTube, Dropbox or Google Drive link instead of uploaded directly.

Once a transcript is complete, users can generate an AI summary, extract action items, or translate the text — including the SRT and VTT files, which keep their original timecodes — into any of 103 languages. Browser-based subtitle utilities — SRT to TXT, VTT to SRT, SRT to VTT, and a timestamp shifter — run entirely client-side without uploading the file.

The service is priced per minute of audio rather than by subscription: 10 free minutes per day, then €0.02 per minute with a €0.50 minimum charge. No account is required to start a transcription or see a preview, and there is no monthly commitment, which suits irregular workloads such as freelance journalists, researchers and independent podcasters.

Uploaded files and generated transcripts are deleted within 24 hours, or on demand. Recordings are not reviewed by human transcribers and are not used to train AI models. The subtitle conversion tools process files locally in the browser, so those files are never transmitted to a server at all.

Very useful for editing scripts/interview videos.

Coming from a video editing background, Descript might take some getting used to. But once you figure it out, it speeds up your editing (especially interviews/long-form voiceover). The captions are very nice to work with, but a bit limited in terms of styles. There are a lot more caption styles, transitions, and effects in CapCut, but Descript excels in simplicity and speed.

The saved layouts (you can make your own) are very good if you want to create a bunch of videos on different topics with the same design scheme or branding.
