Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Breadwinner and Papertools.app.

What's the story behind your product?

Papertools.app's answer:

Papertools began with the belief that even the smallest business should have access to professional paperwork and proper bookkeeping.

Founder Adis Smajtic built it in Broome, Western Australia, drawing on more than a decade of experience in purchasing, procurement and business operations. That work exposed the everyday gaps between invoices, supplier records, payments and what actually happened in a business.

The first version, PaperTools.io, launched on September 10, 2025. It offered free browser tools for creating business documents, with no login or subscription. Feedback pointed toward the next step: remembering customers, keeping records and connecting the paperwork over time.

Papertools.app followed, entering private beta in June 2026 and developing into a connected accounting and invoicing workspace. Today, invoices, expenses, payments, payroll, projects and reports sit alongside tools such as Starting Position, Quick Journal and Paper-Ai.

The product has grown, while the principle remains: make everyday business work easier and keep proper bookkeeping underneath.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Papertools.app's answer:

Papertools is built for small-business owners who handle the work and the paperwork: freelancers, sole traders, owner-operators and small teams.

That includes consultants sending client invoices, trades and service businesses tracking job costs, businesses managing products and stock, and employers preparing payroll alongside their other financial records.

It suits people starting their first business as well as established businesses bringing existing balances and records into a new system. The common need is clear: professional paperwork, a practical view of the money and proper books, without needing to learn accounting jargon to get through everyday tasks.

Team permissions and accountant exports also support the people helping the owner run the business.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Papertools.app's answer:

Choose Papertools if you want to manage your business finances without making accounting terminology the starting point for every task.

The everyday workflow follows the work you recognize: send an estimate, create an invoice, record a supplier bill, check who owes you money and understand what a job earned. Connected records help you follow the transaction through to your books and reports.

You can begin with the Essential plan, then move to a paid plan when you need higher limits and additional capabilities. Your existing records stay in the same workspace as your business grows.

Papertools also gives you access to the accounting underneath and CSV exports to share with an accountant. You can work through the screens yourself or use Paper-Ai by voice or text, with proposed changes remaining under your control.

Papertools Essential is free forever. Plan limits and Terms & Conditions apply.

What makes your product unique?

Papertools.app's answer:

Papertools brings plain-language business tools and proper double-entry bookkeeping into the same workspace. Owners can focus on what happened in their business while the accounting structure works underneath.

Quick Journal shows how that works: choose a familiar situation, such as putting your own money into the business or buying equipment, and answer straightforward questions to create the bookkeeping entry. Starting Position helps an existing business bring across its opening balances, assets and debts.

Paper-Ai adds another way to work. Speak or type to draft documents and ask questions about your business records, then review proposed changes before saving.

Invoices, bills, payments, payroll and projects connect with the financial reports behind them. Owners have access to their records, and accountants can work with the journals, general ledger and exports.

Simple on the surface. Proper bookkeeping underneath.
