The last time I used Dreamweaver was in 2009 when I was putting together a site at a small business, my first job after college in a recession-hit market. These days I know HTML/CSS pretty well, but do still use a DW-style tool to build simple websites without an IDE: Bootstrap Studio[0]. With a customizable barebones Bootstrap grid system under the hood. It's pretty powerful, GUI-based flexbox positioning, custom... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
> I've just started working on a new portfolio site and was wondering if I could skip the Figma/whatever wireframe phase and just use a local WYSIWYG tool for a static page. Someone above suggested https://bootstrapstudio.io/ which seems to fit the static page use case very well. > it was usually ruined by a project manager or a developer trying to make something 'look designed' by mimicking some simple, elegant... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
If you use Bootstrap and are more towards "static" websites, I recommend Bootstrap Studio (https://bootstrapstudio.io/). I used it on and off. Last time, I used it to make one-off HTML, then edit the rest by hand (meaning, I can't return to the app again to make changes). But recently, I used it to develop https://momenial.com/ with 100% editing in the app. Meaning I can use the app to make changes. I _do_ still... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
Bootstrap Studio - Price: $29-59 ("one-time" purchase, only for $59 option, the other has 1 year free updates after that you're out) A powerful desktop app for creating responsive websites using the Bootstrap framework. Source: about 3 years ago
Itโs actually the opposite, WYSIWYG is better than ever. You just have to seek out the tooling because WYSIWYG isnโt something that everyone benefits from. HyperCard was cool but it had big limitations that made its demise inevitable. It was most useful for prototyping because of those limitations. Its inability to use files over a network is a big limiter. Basically everything HyperCard could do is something the... - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
I love how Trix [0] and (I think) ProseMirror [1] work in that regard: it does use contenteditable, but every edit you make is applied to an internal model instead, then the editor state is updated back from the model. ๐ก If you're using the Trix editor, I also show you how to test your view components with a nice helper inspired by Will Olson's article Testing the Trix Editor with Capybara and MiniTest. - Source: dev.to / almost 2 years ago
Trix is simple and easy to use for basic writing like a blog. Itโs what Basecamp and HEY both use (it was built by 37signals and is the default in Rails) https://trix-editor.org/. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
Trix was the winner. It was easy to style, is well maintained, has documentation for embedding it into a form, is easy to create custom keyboard shortcuts for, has great examples on how to save/load content or modify it with javascript. Source: over 2 years ago
