Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing BitPay and Web3E.

What makes your product unique?

Web3E's answer:

Web3E is the only crypto payment gateway combining real AML/sanctions screening with non-custodial-by-default settlement โ€” most competitors pick one lane: custodial control paired with compliance, or non-custodial freedom paired with "no questions asked." Every payment is screened, and funds still go straight to a wallet the merchant controls. Beyond that, Web3E treats payments as infrastructure: real-time monitoring across 14 blockchain networks, confirmation tracking, reorg handling, underpayment/overpayment detection, exchange-rate locking, replay-proof webhooks, and a double-entry ledger that can't double-credit an order.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Web3E's answer:

Web3E doesn't force the usual trade-off between "compliant" and "in control of your own funds" โ€” it's both, by default. Pricing is fully published and automatic: fees start at 3% and step down to 2.5% past $1K/month and 2% past $10K/month, recalculated daily, no sales calls or custom quotes. The API is built on strongly typed contracts (Protocol Buffers/ConnectRPC internally, REST externally), which keeps edge cases like underpayments and reorgs from turning into accounting problems. And it's built and operated by a hands-on solo engineer with 30+ years of infrastructure experience โ€” fast iteration, no committee decisions, direct accountability for uptime and correctness.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Web3E's answer:

Online businesses that want to accept cryptocurrency without either building blockchain infrastructure themselves or handing custody of their funds to a third party โ€” e-commerce, SaaS, gaming platforms, and other internet-native businesses. Buyers tend to be technical teams evaluating a gateway on integration quality and operational correctness, not just marketing claims. Initial go-to-market focus is the US and Latin America, where card processing is expensive or slow, and a meaningful share of potential customers sit outside the traditional banking system.

What's the story behind your product?

Web3E's answer:

Web3E is built and run by a solo technical founder with over 30 years of software and infrastructure experience. Looking at crypto payments, they didn't see a branding opportunity โ€” they saw an infrastructure problem: transaction monitoring, confirmation tracking, reconciliation, and security that has to be exactly right every time because it's handling real money. Frustrated that businesses were stuck choosing between months of in-house blockchain engineering or surrendering custody to a processor, they built Web3E to remove that compromise: non-custodial by default, with an optional custodial mode for merchants who'd rather not manage wallets themselves. The product is live today, built end-to-end by one person โ€” payment infrastructure, merchant dashboard, and deployment.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Web3E's answer:

Internally, services communicate over Protocol Buffers and ConnectRPC, giving strongly typed contracts and a single source of truth for data models. Externally, Web3E exposes a signed REST API plus a hosted checkout for merchant integrations. The platform runs real-time on-chain monitoring across 14 blockchain networks (stablecoins and native assets), a confirmation-tracking and blockchain-reorg-handling engine, AML/sanctions screening, and a double-entry ledger for reconciliation-grade accounting.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Web3E's answer:

Honest answer, not a fabricated list โ€” the source docs explicitly state Web3E has just launched and is pre-revenue with no named customers yet: (none to name yet โ€” product just launched, currently pre-revenue and focused on acquiring first merchants in the US and Latin America)
