I've use it instead of Firebase on a 15$ DigitalOcean droplet and saved around ~$150 a month. Managing my own infra does take some extra time, but definitely worth it. The APIs and SDK are also surprisingly much easier to consume than Firebase. Waiting for the cloud version.

Initially, I was using the Supabase free tier, but I was hitting the limits, and my app was becoming stale. Then I switched to Appwrite. Both are totally different; one is SQL, while the latter one is NoSQL. Although use node-appwrite package to skip the manual schema add-ons. - Source: dev.to / 5 months ago

While on the subject, does anybody know any good ad-blocking solutions for mobile phones? So far I have experimented with NetShield from ProtonVPN and https://nextdns.io/ with varying results. There are also features baked into certain browsers like the cookie blocker with DuckDuckGo which works extremely well, and UnTrap for Safari on iOS which allows for heavy Youtube web customisation. Also, shout out to... - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
I work right at the junction of marketing tech -- eCommerce, marketing sites, account management systems. Theoretically I should be living in compliance hell, but here's the dirty secret: To "follow" every rule, all you really need is another layer of UX friction. Another modal. Another "consent wizard." A few toggles buried under Manage Settings โ Advanced โ Optional โ Something You'll Never Click โ Opt Me Out.... - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
We just shipped a new feature in NextDNS: Bypass Age Verification. More and more sites (especially adult ones) are now forcing users to upload IDs or selfies to continue. We think thatโs a terrible idea: handing over government documents to random sites is a huge privacy risk. This new setting workarounds those verification flows via DNS tricks. Itโs available today to all users, including free accounts. Weโre... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
NextDNS [0] has proven very useful for me on iOS. Firefox is 99% ad-free. Only for YouTube do I switch to Brave Browser. My home router (Draytek) is also configured to force any connected devices to use NextDNS too. Definitely worth the โฌ20 annual subscription.
