MIDAS is written in Perl - a language commonly found on almost all web servers, and which can be readily installed on those without. The backend database supports both MySQL and MariaDB, and the front end is a mix of HTML, CSS and Javascript

Apache Karaf with OSGi works pretty nice using annotation based dependency injection with the declarative services, removing the need to mess with those hopefully archaic XML blueprints. Too bad it's not as trendy as spring and the developers so many of the tutorials can be a bit dated and hard to find. As "berrybrew" is specific to Strawberry perl, and we still technically support (but don't recommend ActivePerl), we tend to spin up VMs when we need to test our MIDAS software different versions of Strawberry/ActivePerl. Source: about 5 years ago
