But with Evernote now I can have my notes at one place and unified. Also the fact that I can log to another device and my notes are "just there" is really nice. And also I like graphics user interface of Evernote.

I used a note system built on top of Fossil as my primary system for quite a while. Here are the details in case anyone is interested. Fossil allows CGI extensions[1]. The frontend uses the ace editor for syntax highlighting and then sends all the "text" you have typed to a python backend. The backend then writes all the text to a temporary directory and calls the compiler using subprocess (something similar to os.system). Source: almost 4 years ago
Obsidian is a multi-platform note-taking and writing app. Simple enough. But aren't there plenty of those around? Yes absolutely, but they each have downsides that I wasn't able to settle with long-term.
