  u/stevep99’s Colemak-DH mod is built with just this observation, and though many are fine with the vanilla Colemak, I think DH/m is a smart mod. It is a common concern, shared by the BEAKL layouts (Xay Voong and u/iandoug) and others. I tried regular colemak briefly and then when I switched to dh it just felt really good (although I did need to retrain muscle memory). • Anyone have experience with Neovim and Colemak or Devorak keyboard layout?

  I use Colemak-Dh and I don't remap any of the regular motions. The only thing I don't find comfortable on a Colemak-Dh setup are j and k (I have those remapped in the lowest row of my 5 row keyboard instead). I have caps+m/n/e/i remapped to arrow keys so I just use those homerow up/down arrows in place of j/k for motions. Source: about 2 years ago

  Personally I had some pronounced relief in my wrists from Dvorak , and even more by using a column stagger keyboard after. I have no personal experience with a qwerty column stagger :( Basically I am in too deep with DVORAK to go back to QWERTY without headaches. With my hindsight I probably wouldn't do it again. • Did a little analysis cause I wanted to see if Colemak-DH or Colemak-D, were it only change the left part, was a better option than Vanilla Colemak.

  As a little context: Since I started with Colemak, 6 weeks ago, I always felt that Colemak wasgreat but this wasn’t done for Spanish people.   I personally use a corne, or rather I have multiple. You can program them with qmk, and when I mean program I mean hack away in C. It is awesome and you can build any Lay-out you want. I personally use Colemak DH and that made RSI go away in no time! Source: over 2 years ago

  If you go with Colemak, don't use the vanilla layout. It has high use of the center column, which many people find uncomfortable.   I usually recommend Colemak-DH because it's the most well rounded layout in my opinion. It takes Colemak, which is already a great layout, and fixes the most common complaints from it's users.   I agree that the Colemak Mod-DH site is overly confusing. I think you're trying to analyze too many factors at once. DH vs vanilla is a whole separate question than angle mod vs non which is also separate from dealing with normal staggered vs columnar/matrix.   It's not easy, but I would also switch your keyboard layout to Colemak Mod-DH. It took me a good 6 months to switch and relearn to touch-type but it's so much more comfortable to type on over QWERTY and takes a lot of stress off of your weaker fingers. Source: over 2 years ago
