I'm also a 45 yo. Dude who's spent a lot off time off the bike due to injury or illness. I don't race and I'd say I'm more competitive with myself than others. That hasn't stopped me from chasing real numbers / fitness on the bike. I'm still not particularly fast, but I'm at least as fit / fast as I was in my 20's when I was racing. There is a lot of broscience about getting faster and what types of training make... Source: about 3 years ago

I suggest you go over the zwift.com's forums and make a post in the feature requests subforum about how this idiocy makes it very difficult to fit workouts into a someone's real life schedule. Zwift will ignore the request just like they have ignored years of other users' complaints about this, but the outrage while writing the post may result in a small training effect that will make up for Zwift preventing you... Zwift, a prominent player in the realm of virtual cycling and training applications, continues to garner mixed yet generally positive feedback from its user base and the broader community. Positioned uniquely in the intersection of digital gaming and physical exercise, Zwift offers a virtual platform that caters to both casual riders and dedicated athletes alike, and this dual appeal reflects in public opinion.
One of the most appealing aspects of Zwift is its ability to create an engaging and interactive environment. Users frequently highlight the platformโs success in turning indoor training into a communal and social experience. The ability to virtually race and ride with others from around the globe has transformed what could be a solitary activity into one rich with social interaction and competition. This has been likened to massively multiplayer online environments, as users can cycle through beautifully rendered worlds that foster a sense of global community.
Zwift is praised for its versatility, allowing users to train indoors with various setups ranging from simple stationary bikes to high-end smart trainers. The application extends beyond cycling, also offering modes for running, a feature that distinguishes it from some competitors like RGT Cycling. Moreover, the app is accessible through numerous devices, which, despite some criticism over "dated" graphics, ensures compatibility with most hardware setupsโa practical advantage for many users.
However, Zwift is not without criticisms. Technical issues, such as login problems and occasional app downtimes, have been a persistent concern among users. These technical hiccups sometimes prevent users from leveraging the platform to its fullest potential, sparking frustration within the community. Furthermore, users have voiced concerns about limitations within the user interface and scheduling features that do not always align with the practicalities of daily life, suggesting areas where Zwift could focus on enhancing user experience.
Despite its challenges, Zwift continues to innovate and maintain its position in a competitive market. It stands alongside alternatives like Strava and Wahooโs SYSTM, which offer different approaches and features. While Wahoo SYSTM eschews virtual worlds for real-road race simulations, and Rouvy combines real-road videos with elevation data, Zwiftโs gamified approach and its robust community are consistently noted as major draws.
In conclusion, Zwift remains a favorite among virtual training applications, recognized for its engaging social features and broad accessibility. While technical and user interface issues present areas for improvement, the platformโs strengths in offering an immersive and interactive exercise experience significantly contribute to its popularity. For both competitive and casual users, Zwift represents both a fitness tool and a delightful escape into a universe where cyclingโs physical demands meet the thrill of a digital raceway.
