  • Side Border Bitmap Scroller on the C64
When I was messing around with C64 programming, I used dasm (https://dasm-assembler.github.io/) and the VICE emulator (https://vice-emu.sourceforge.io/). But I'm sure there are better tools out there. This text file is a fantastic reference on the VIC-II video chip: http://www.zimmers.net/cbmpics/cbm/c64/vic-ii.txt. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
  • A responsive striped CSS pattern inspired by 80s VHS tapes
I'm really into retro-tech at the moment. And whilst I still haven't gotten round to playing with my new Commodore 64 Emulator, I have been collecting images of old VHS tapes that inspired the design of my most recent website project. Just look at the beauty that is the Sony T-120! - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago
  • My “professional computer”
Not sure what OP is running but VICE is pretty good! Source: over 1 year ago

All that said, I would honestly just recommend an emulator (eg. WinVICE) if you're just wanting to play this one game again. No need to spend money if the emulator lets you do it all for free. Source: over 2 years ago
  • VICE in Crostini with Lenovo Duet
Anyone have any luck getting VICE installed in Crostini? I'm working with a Lenovo Duet. Mostly followed the guide and additional steps mentioned in this journal entry. Source: almost 3 years ago

If you want to try some really old-skool stuff, get hold of an emulator or two, for example one called VICE for Commodore machines (Windows version is called WinVICE, but versions are available for MacOS, Linux and many other platforms as well), and then go to archive.org and search for some old Commodore books or magazines.
