It really isn't 'miles' ahead of the competition. If anything it is way behind. For example, look at Varjo: https://varjo.com/products/xr-4/. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
The Varjo XR-4. This $4000 wired headset is general purpose PCXR. It has extremely high resolution and passthrough. It requires a powerful GPU to run it. Source: 5 months ago
Apple Vision Pro has a "PCVR" PC inside it - how much does say a Valve Index, plus all the accessories, PLUS the gaming PC required to drive it cost? I'd bet it's easily close to $3500. Varjo just released a new 4K HMD on Monday, which still needs a PC with something like a 4090GPU, and its pricing starts at $4000. Source: 5 months ago
Go to this site and check out a comparison of the HoloLens to a passthrough based AR experience. Scroll about halfway down the page to the car with the slider. The reason HoloLens hasn’t succeeded is AR (non-pass through) in its current form is terrible. Source: 11 months ago
Typical Apple price tag. I'll be very interested in seeing an in depth review on this headset. I work in VR development and have worked with most headsets including the £6,000 Varjo XR headset. Source: 11 months ago
This is closer to Varjo's product line than anything offered by HTC/Valve/HP. For a reference point, Varjo's enterprise-oriented MR model, the XR-3, runs $6.5k while their consumer-oriented VR-only model, the Aero, runs $2k. Source: 11 months ago
If the Apple hardware is as good as reported—and if Apple and third-party software vendors come through with the software, no sure thing—then at $3,500 US the headset will be excellent value for a) pro users who can justify the business expense and b) rich people who have $3,500 US to spare for a top-quality leisure device. It's certainly unfortunate that I, along with many others, won't be able to afford one for... Source: 12 months ago
The Varjo XR-3 could do the job you need, if you have €6.5k spare. Source: about 1 year ago
Probably the only thing that comes close to providing the comfort for what you are asking is a Varjo XR-3. Source: about 1 year ago
Passthrough on low end and cheaper devices has not been great but Varjo's XR-3 has fantastic passthrough and Apple's headset is supposed to be in the same price bracket (with more cameras and an additional LiDAR sensor). Source: over 1 year ago
Not sure if you've seen it, but this is the XR-3. Source: over 1 year ago
Why have physical screens when you can just make as many, as whatever size, wherever you want? Source: over 1 year ago
Howe about the Varjo XR-3 for $6,495.00 gotta have that Full Frame Bionic Display with human-eye resolution. Source: almost 2 years ago
A steal compared to the Varjo XR-3 at €5995 plus €1495 yearly subscription. Source: over 2 years ago
I'm trying to understand how fast VR gaming can become mainstream. I've recently learned about Foveated_rendering. Wiki page cites potential for an order of magnitude fewer pixels to be rendered in comparison to a full image. However for e.g. High end varjo xr3 with "tracking at 200 Hz powering foveated rendering" (https://varjo.com/products/xr-3/) recommended hardware is RTX 3080 with two displayport cables... Hi! I will have the chance to play around with a TeslaSuit and a Varjo XR-3 headset for a few months, for the purpose of using biosignals to create in VR. (Article: what is biosignals?). Source: over 2 years ago
I didn't find any on https://varjo.com/products/vr-3/ or https://varjo.com/products/xr-3/. Source: over 2 years ago
Since then we have also launched our new Stereo IR 170, been the hand tracking of choice for a new generation of VR headsets (1,2,3,4) as well as the upcoming Lynx R-1 and have just launched our next generation of hand tracking, Gemini (V5)! Source: over 2 years ago
AR will likely be a subset of VR enable by pass through. Check out https://varjo.com/products/xr-3/ Until we can perfectly simulate physical reality, virtual interactions will never be as real as real world interactions. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
Https://varjo.com/products/xr-3/ is probably as close as you'll get today. However it costs around $6k and is still far from perfect. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
While a VR headset is cool and the latest ones are absolutely mindblowing- see the Varjo XR3's for example. Mindblowing how it's moving forward-. Source: over 2 years ago
