If you're willing to dabble with some code, there's a fantastic app called Ubersicht that adds custom stuff to your desktop. I know, you're probably thinking "That's not at ALL what I want!" but I bet you could use it to put an icon in the bottom left or right corner of your screen to show when your audio is connected to your AirPods instead of the speakers, or something like that. Übersicht, an application that allows you to make your own desktop widgets (can execute system commands and see their output displayed in little containers). This can be used to virtually replace the default menu bar on mac. Source: about 1 year ago
Have you looked into Überschict? My current desktop has a calendar and a few other things displayed on it in semi-transparent windows. https://tracesof.net/uebersicht/. Source: about 1 year ago
Uebersicht (Free) Übersicht lets you run system commands and display their output on your desktop in little containers, called widgets. Widgets are written using HTML5, which means they are easy to write and customize can show data in tables, charts, graphs ... You name it can react to different screen sizes (I did make an Evangelion (If you get where that's from ❤️) system monitor for it... Yeah really cool,... Source: about 1 year ago

I don't know why exactly but I prefer to avoid iStat and similar (to be honest I'm using only the bluetooth widget of MenuBar Stats), because all of those app are full of pointless info and use more resource than what is worth. Übersicht instead is super-lightweight and minimal and I can see only the minimum needed without distracting. Source: over 1 year ago
(Maybe not exactly what you're looking for) Check this out. There are some other alternatives, search rainmeter on alternativeto.net and you'll find some other similar software. Source: over 1 year ago
I think you can achieve that using Übersicht. Source: over 1 year ago
I also thought to try Übersicht, as there seems to be plenty of options for ready-made widgets. Customizing them might anyhow be too technical for me, since my coding skills are pretty lame. Source: over 1 year ago
There’s Ubersicht which can show html or text based lists, if that helps? Source: over 1 year ago
Übersicht is basically the macOS version of Rainmeter which allows you to run desktop widgets built simply on HTML/CSS/JS to monitor system settings, display HUDs for your running services... Realistically you can create widgets to display absolutely anything you want. If you can do even some basic web design, you can get Übersicht running. There is a large community of premade widgets, but it's incredibly simple... Source: over 1 year ago
You can run something like Ubersicht which allows you to create desktop widgets via HTML/CSS/JS(React). There is this Bing Daily Picture wallpaper widget that you can adapt to pull from any source that has pictures available via API (like Unsplash). Source: over 1 year ago

There are other apps that support this, and probably the best one is https://tracesof.net/uebersicht/. Source: almost 2 years ago
First download the uebersicht app from here: Https://tracesof.net/uebersicht/ Then download my widget pack from here: Https://we.tl/t-W2JqWeOjir And place inside of your widget folder in uebersicht Please note that you will probably have to change the dock code It is in app-launcher.widget/index.coffee.
