If they don't reply or unable to explain the reason, you should take matter in your own hands. Complain about it on BBC. Its a platform used by freelancer to complain against online platforms. You are right to be wary - larger landlords would have access to the big credit rating agencies, but it may be a small landlord who does not want to pay for a subscription just to pull an occasional credit report.   The next time dealing with something like this. Always check reviews and KvK (Chamber of Commerce) numbers. A quick google search shows me that this company has a lot of bad review and no KvK number to begin with, basically meaning that they are not a legitimate company.
