Use a native editor. VS Code is IMHO awful. Someone mentioned Sublime which is fast and has some nice features, but its non-native UI is IMHO ugly and clumsy. First, I've already adopted TextMate as the primary text editor on my system. TextMate is the lightest-weight piece of software besides vim that supports all of my daily tasks, including note-taking. TextMate, which is native and open-source, is a good alternative. In fact, TextMate was the inspiration to create SublimeText, so much that the Themes and Extensions for SublimeText (v2) are compatible with TextMate bundle system.
