If you miss the portability and the need to know the built-ins in and out, you likely might enjoy SunVox, with its utter portability, surprising richness, and the need to be inventive to eke out interesting sounds from standard blocks. https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
Sunvox (https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox) has full support for microtonality! Of course the workflow is quite different from other daws (it's a tracker) but it's worth checking out imo. Source: over 3 years ago
So I'm just gushing because this app has eaten my life lately and that's okay. Compared to like, a full blown DAW like Live 11 or something it's not perfect (is Live 11 even perfect?), but for my preference, there are overwhelmingly more positives than there are negatives. Check it out. Hell, throw Night Radio a few bucks even if you get it for free. That's all. Source: almost 4 years ago
No need to try as it already exists: Any Linux tablet with Reaper and a couple soft synths and a decent external sound card if needed would do a lot more for a lot less. A good portion of the cost of this device could be justified only if it really had motorized knobs and faders, which are shown in the video but not mentioned among the features; that would be a completely unnecessary gimmick (in such a device)... - Source: Hacker News / about 4 years ago
Late reply, but I would like to recommend SunVox as usual: https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/. Source: about 4 years ago
I have Sunvox, Caustic 3, and FakeSID on my phone. I don't do that much with them. I really just use them to do music while on a train journey when I don't want to kill my laptop battery. The first two have got desktop versions, so that makes it much easier to refine them when you're back at your computer. Source: over 4 years ago
SunVox[0] is a small, fast and powerful modular synthesizer with pattern-based sequencer (tracker). It is a tool for those people who like to compose music wherever they are, whenever they wish. On any device. On any system. And it's free for most of the systems, except the Android and iOS. [0] https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/. - Source: Hacker News / over 4 years ago

Agreed that Eurorack or modular synthesis isn't something that I would recommend for a beginner. Also agree that a Eurorack system _could_ be an overly expensive version of an existing fixed-architecture synthesizer. Eurorack's potential, however, is a way to explore synthesis after you've learned the basics. It can be a very open playground to try synthesis ideas that may not be possible on a fixed-architecture... - Source: Hacker News / over 4 years ago
I remember using Buzz back when I was in university around the turn of the century. Lots of great memories with that one. I came across an excellent modern alternative when my kids started getting into electronic music. Itโs called SunVox [0]. Still under active development and runs on just about anything! Lots of fun! You might wanna give SunVox ( https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/ ) a try. It's a hybrid of tracker-style software with a modular synth. Source: almost 5 years ago
If you are interested in using a tracker, I highly recommend trying Sunvox[1]. It's an Impulse Trackers style pattern based sequencer. It's a surprisingly high quality modular synthesizer. It's also multi-platform: Windows, macOS, Linux (x86, x86_64, ARM, ARM64), iOS, Android, Windows CE. [1] https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 5 years ago
Hm. You can have that in modern and multiplatform from: https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/. - Source: Hacker News / about 5 years ago
Not strictly speaking a DAW, but you might be interested in the SunVox [1] tracker/modular sim, which has a Raspberry Pi version. [1] https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/. - Source: Hacker News / about 5 years ago
I suspect that you will appreciate rexpaint (and also the game it was created for, Cogmind): https://www.gridsagegames.com/rexpaint/ If you are a fan of this aesthetic and would like to visit it in audio form, itโs more โLofi inspiredโ but it checks all the right boxes for me; I also recommend checking out SunVox: https://warmplace.ru/soft/sunvox/. - Source: Hacker News / about 5 years ago
Does anybody know of recent-ish software or hardware projects that implements the live note-level (pre-synthesis) manipulation seen in lft's amazing "bitbuf"[1] device? In the presentation video[2] at 3:26, lft describes how the "bass tracks" are "transposable". After entering a bass part in the key of C, playing single notes transposes the note values up to that key (i.e. Playing D transposes all note... - Source: Hacker News / about 5 years ago
